Several members here were going to strip the chrome finish off their side keys using various products (oven cleaner, super clean, etc.) like they do on the accent ring around the trackball. If you decide to try this, the keys would probably have to be soaked for a few days, and the plastic under the chrome finish would have to be black, naturally, for this to work.
No one has ever reported back whether they actually did it, and whether it worked to their satisfaction or not.
