Default 8320 Keypad & Trackball Lighting Issue

Hi all,

Feels great to be a part of this forum. This is my first post and I look forward to sorting out my issue with all your help and support. I have an 8320 that's 2 years old. I have OS 4.5.0.174.

The issue here is my Keypad & Trackball just won't light up even during night and this is making life tough. I've done a lot of research and have found no solution so it would be great and very much appreciated if I received some help with this.

I have also downgraded my OS and in that case, nothing ever lights up.

Here are some observations:-
* If I apply pressure on the battery they keypad glows and so does the trackball. I tried stuffing some padding like sponging, etc but it works for a day and then again loses it's charm - that is the keypad stops glowing and I need to repeat the process again and it takes a **** lotta attempts.
* I've tried all tests, set the auto dim feature on and off, still no success.
* I've taken of the battery and still no result.

Please can someone tell me what to do? Any sort of help would be great as this seems to be quite a common issue..

Thanks

the fact that it does work when you have something stuffed in there makes me suspect hardware (Not software) fault. Given the fact that the device is 2+years old (and has likely been dropped once or twice, plus the normal wear and tear) kinda confirms my suspicions.

As for a solution, well keep trying! You could try to put a layer or 2 of thick paper or thin cardboard under the battery cover. (or experiment, maybe put it under the battery)

Hey,

I've tried inserting padding below the batter as well. The outcomes the same - it works for a day or 2 and then just dies again. And the process needs to be repeated again. Well I guess I better give up as this sounds like a hardware fault. I even opened it up to ensure there's not dust or some lose connection and put it back together, but that didn't help either

One last thing to try, but there is some risk involved....

GENTLY (as in super carefully and gently) slightly bend the battery contacts on the phone outward more (to establish a firmer connection to the battery), As well, seeing as you've got the battery out take a soft eraser (I've heard the pink ones on the end of a pencil work well) and lightly rub the contacts on both the battery and the phone. I've never tried it but it supposedly cleans up any corrosion and helps keep a good connection.

Hope this helps. Nothing else comes to mind but if I come up with something I'll try to remember to let you know!
