That "strange icon" appears when something is obstructing the view of the camera.
For example, if you put your finger in front of it, etc etc.
Obviously, this is not your problem because you would have realized that. I would assume it is a problem with the camera hardware. The lens may be damaged or something.
Did this randomly occur or did you install a new OS? Did you drop the device? Have you checked to make sure the lens is not blocked by something?
Hope that helps...

I know of several people who have had this problem including myself.
Look at the lens and see if it looks off centered. Take something and push on the rubber coating around the lens to center it back up. Some people say that they could hear the lens pop back into place. Myself, I couldn't.
This should be the fix. - 01-01-2009, 07:06 PM

This solution worked for me...Try this and let me know whether it is working or not for you. This solution is from one of the postings on this forum....
This worked for me:
1- Go to your Internet browser.
2- click menu.
3- Select Options.
4- Select Cache Operations.
5- Clear everything there, all contents, Pushed Content and Cookie Cache.
6- Reboot the phone.
Good Luck - 01-02-2009, 04:35 PM #10
