Why do they say its necessary to wait for 30 seconds every time you do a battery pull? (Before putting it back in). Does it really take that long for the memory to completely flush?

Several seconds are recommended to insure full discharge of all the capacitors and other charge storage parts. Much less than 30 seconds or so is a lot like a soft reset with alt-shift-del.

Memory resets with the rebooting process.

Thanks for the quick response... so you don't necessarily get more memory on a battery pull as opposed to a alt-shift-del?

No they both restore memory but the battery pull will also correct minor problems by keeping the battery out for a while to let any resident charge bleed off.
