Default Wi-fi saves battery life. How is this possible?

Just installed wi-fi at home and actually bought a BB charger for the living room expecting I'd be burning up my battery more quickly. I wasn't prepared for a 20-30% INCREASE in battery life.
Am I living in upside-down world or is this a common experience with 8350i users?

i found when i am connected to wifi battery lasts longer, but when i'm in places where it's constantly searching it drains a bit faster. from what i understand it's easier on the battery for data transfer over wifi than over your carrier network. i suppose if you want the most out of battery life only turn on wifi when you know you'll be able to connect.

for me i just leave it on all the time...i still get all day on one charge, depending on use. i have all the places i go that have wifi saved and it just connects when i'm in range. it's easier for me to do that than have to manually turn it on every time i get somewhere with wifi

It's pretty common overall. WiFi is less drain on your battery unless you're constantly streaming, and it saves on data usage immensely (my billing cycle ends on 12/10 and I'm at 65mb with constant usage). I leave mine on 24/7 and have it set to connect to any of my saved networks when it finds them; this is a little harder on your battery but less to deal with if you're out and about quite a bit.
