It's not actually a text message, it's just the device misreading the voicemail notification and thinking it's a text. It's a weird quirk with certain BlackBerries that I've yet to figure out how to get rid of. Some BBs do it, others don't. My 8350i did however start doing it after the last software update.

Does anyone else have any insight into correcting this?

I think it was written into the new OS....I can't find any way to get rid of it.

I don't mind it so much. The only thing I wish it did was say who the voicemail is from. I've noticed since switching to BB, my voicemail never says the number of the person leaving the message. My old Samsung told me on the display screen and when calling in to check voice messages.

Yeah, this bugged the heck out of me, still kinda does but not as much cause I don't get very many voicemails any more due to no service. I tried calling sprint about it when the update first came out, they didn't have any idea what I was talking about and I wasn't in the mood to call in repeatadly until I found someone who knew about it or could at least try to find out. I might try to call back again sometime here now that the updates been around for a bit.

I updated my OS last night, have not seen this (if you are speaking of a text in the SMS/MMS folder). I just get the icon with a number in header of desktop. I do get a pop-up that states one new voicemail waiting (but it was there before update also).

***Update***I made a test call to myself and I did get the VM SMS notification.

And also, if you search for the thread I started a little while back about this, casper does explain how to activate your firewall for SMS and it works perfectly, all you will get is the little icon on top of the screen with the number of vm waiting. But for some reason it was showing 3 blocked SMS when I only had one voicemail so I wasn't sure if it was blocking another notification or not and that's why I was going to call tech support earlier about it. It might be worth testing on another berry too, it won't block your texts because they come through as MMS but then just pay attention to how many SMS are blocked by the firewall compared to how many voicemails you've had. Maybe it was just my BB or a specific app or something, worth a try if you want it gone.

If the VM notification is anything similar to the message waiting light indicator on your landline phone, then the system will continue to send the signal until your phone acknowledges it. It is just a data burst on landline from the central office switch which "tells" the phone set to illuminate the light. Once the VM is cleared it sends another data burst to turn the light off. Hence if you set your firewall to block the VM SMS, the system will continue to send the notification until it receives a response. That is why you will have multiple blocked notifications. I do not know if the wireless carriers can turn that feature off, but landline can, they never had it when everyone had answering machines. Do not know if wireless carriers tech support can "turn off" that feature or not, just a thought.
