It will erase all contacts (if they were stored in the phone and not the SIM) and your phone should look exactly the way it was when you first turned it on. | Actually you are partially wrong. A "Wipe Handheld" brings the phone back to its factory preset condition. A "Master Reset" tells the mobile network to clear out all data (in the HLR) related to the phone being authorized to work on the system and then forces the phone to re-authenticate with the network and reregister. A "Battery Pull" forces the phone to just reregister with the network after losing connectivity but nothing else is lost.
You can do a "Wipe Handheld" and not affect the phone's registration with the network, and the same with a "Battery Pull". A "Master Reset" affects all services like Interconnect (phone calls), Packet Data, & Dispatch, to be refreshed with the network. But you will still keep your last call return and any emails etc. you have on the phone. A "Wipe Handheld" only affects the device and not the services provided to it with the exception that you would have to set up your email again. A "Battery Pull" will keep all settings and doesn't affect the phones authentication with the network, but what basically happens is that the phone tells the network "I was lost" but "now I found, please connect me". Then the system checks the phones information and says that it is authorized and starts sevices like before it was lost.
