why did level 2 tech support have me do a reset today? lol, level 2, as a matter of fact all the tech support have you do that straight away then do the battery pull because the update has stuck my wireless setting to on even if it is not. i think if tech support if going to post on here then they should post all the things that should be done to correct problems and tell us what we should not do so we can prevent problems.

Maybe it's one of those Zen riddles with no answer. Or maybe the master reset is inside of us all...

That is not how you do a master reset, it is just a radio reset.

Master reset will restore the phone to it's original state, this does not do that.

Master reset refreshes the signal. Battery pull refreshes the software.

A master reset does more than refreshes the signal. A master reset will restore the phone to it's original state. i.e. return the phone to the way it was before it was even connected to the network. A master reset will clear all memory on the phone so you can start clean. It will erase all contacts (if they were stored in the phone and not the SIM) and your phone should look exactly the way it was when you first turned it on.

Actually you are partially wrong. A "Wipe Handheld" brings the phone back to its factory preset condition. A "Master Reset" tells the mobile network to clear out all data (in the HLR) related to the phone being authorized to work on the system and then forces the phone to re-authenticate with the network and reregister. A "Battery Pull" forces the phone to just reregister with the network after losing connectivity but nothing else is lost.

You can do a "Wipe Handheld" and not affect the phone's registration with the network, and the same with a "Battery Pull". A "Master Reset" affects all services like Interconnect (phone calls), Packet Data, & Dispatch, to be refreshed with the network. But you will still keep your last call return and any emails etc. you have on the phone. A "Wipe Handheld" only affects the device and not the services provided to it with the exception that you would have to set up your email again. A "Battery Pull" will keep all settings and doesn't affect the phones authentication with the network, but what basically happens is that the phone tells the network "I was lost" but "now I found, please connect me". Then the system checks the phones information and says that it is authorized and starts sevices like before it was lost.

With a minor difference in text ("Master Reset" is called "Master Radio Reset"), this worked perfectly for me. Thanks for posting!

And FYI the "Master Radio Reset" did not restart my phone or affect any of the data/contacts. It is much less intrusive than a Wipe or even a hard shutdown (battery pull). Still it never hurts to back everything up on BB Desktop first (which I did).
