Is there any way to just have a background home screen without the icons, date, time and all the other symbols?

You will need a theme to do this, I'm not sure you will be able to completely clear the screen, I believe there must always be at least the day, date, time, battery and signal bars, and a place for your notification(s) icons(the small ones telling you have a email or text).

There are lots of theme's out there that will give you exactly what you are looking for. Some that will minimize it all as little as possible on the home screen to give you the largest view of your wallpaper.

My personal favorite for this right now is the new BBT's SLATE theme, in the crackberry store(theme section>best seller). What I love about this one, is it gives you the ability to "hide" everything on the home screen(except what was previously mentioned) plus has "see through" details. Giving you a giant home screen. Plus it's a great theme. But there are others, you might want to check out the 8350i Theme section here in the forum also, they will have threads on themes that show as much of your wallpaper as possible.
