I work in Audio and Video and have been a Blackberry user for about 6 years. A dB meter for the phone is one of the reasons I am considering switching to the iPhone as my contract comes up for renewal.
Having a tool that would allow me to estimate sound levels in a concert hall, church, or hotel room without bringing in the heavy-duty hardware. It may not be perfect, but it's better to have some numbers.
For those of you who don't see a use of this kind of app, or any of the other media tools that the iPhone supports, many early adopters of the Blackberry were small business owners in the arts. They are now switching to iPhone or android because the tools are available on these platforms.
There seem to be dozens of "Productivity Tools" that I have no need for and dozens of media end user apps, but none of the tools that media producers need to develop all that media.
