Default BlackBerry Bricked? Not sure what to do.

Ok, first off I am VERY new at this. I do not personally own a blackberry nor do I have much experience with them. However, my friend has one and to save him $50, he asked me to make his 8350i work with boost.( after he bought a blackberry online since his old phone broke) I found a guide online and everything went well without a hitch. After a few days He tried to upgrade to the newest OS of blackberry with the new desktop manager. late in the process he got an error message saying it could no longer communicate with the device and went to the "reload software: 507" error message. I tried many different methods on this site using crackmem and apploader and Jl_Cmder. I have used 2 different computers, 2 different usb cords and 3 different version of blackberry desktop manager. (4.6, 4.7 and the newest one) I have tried to install 2 different OS (4.6 and newest) Every time it gets to that part of the process it stops working. Last night when trying again in didnt even load the first part using apploader, and all of a sudden all it does now is the red light will blink twice and pause for a bit then blink twice. I left it charging overnight in case that was the problem since I saw mentioned somewhere that could be the case but today it is still the same way. So I really have no clue what to do or what to try. if anyone could help me I would be most greatful!
EDIT: I forgot to mention that since the red light blinking has occured I have had a problem with even getting anything to load. I got to the apploader screen with USB PIN Unknown but once I click ok and it starts a split second later it stops.( saying it cannot communicate with it, I believe) and getting my PC to recognize the device is on and off depending on the plug in. I get a windows error message saying a device connected to my usb has failed ( or it recognizes it)

I will double try those. I believe I may have made a mistake once with the vendor. xml the first time with that but I know the last time I tried I did delete the file. I believe it was the apploader way I last tried.

I know this won't help any, but from my experience now with blackberry's and my years of experience repairing PC's with hardware problems, I'm led to believe that blackberry uses really poor components in their phones to cut costs. Everytime a manufacturer does this, it ends up hurting the end user. I believe the memory that stores the OS and bootloader is probably the cheapest they could find and the memory fails not allowing the OS to load or if it does, to intermittently fail causing the phone to crash. When memory fails or becomes intermittent on a PC, you get the same symptoms.

My only suggestion is to try formatting several times with JL_cmdr and then try loading 4.6 vial apploader.

Ugh! IT cant even connect to the device right now. a windows pop up will say that a blackberry is connected but once I try to use the apploader it wont connect. I will try reformatting it several times as you suggest.

EDIT: if it lets me connect anyway.

ok so this is what I did. I went back to the original computer that I was using to try and fix it where the blackberry actually had the original error. I used the Command prompt method to start app loader and it tried loading the OS. ( the newest version was the default idk how to change that) anyway it got to the point of reading the boot ROM and then erasing apps from there and it quit. BUT it did get me back to "reload software:507" screen. It quit because of a Communication error. So now i am wondering what to do now. I have used all the methods. maybe using an older OS will work. not sure.

EDIT: I get this error I believe "A fatal error has occurred while updating your device's software. Please try again.

Device communications error encountered. [A:0x0000000F]"

I wouldn't bother with 5.0 if 4.6 is working... I'm back at 4.6 as 5.0.xx is very unstable on my phone and at least 4.6 is running..
