Blackberry 8350i w/ Boost Mobile
Hi, everyone. I had been a sprint/ nextel customer for years and switched to boost mobile when I heard there plan was only $50 a month. I recently switched my 8350i's to boost mobile and got almost everything to work except for the SMS. Anyhow here's how I got most of the stuff to work from me.
1. Activation:
Took the nextel sprint sim card out and replaced it with the boost mobile sim. Then went online and did my own activation. You must use you 8350i IMEI id and boost sim id. If your try to activate with Nextel sim it won't work, at least no for me.
2. Internet:
Installed Opera Mini browser. Works great, except you don't get the bottom bar of the browser to show, but you still access any comands you need through the menu button or "Q" key. (FREE)
3. E-mail:
Installed Triggit e-mail. Also great, I can access my POP email account and it notifies you when you have received email. (NOT FREE, but it's about $30 to buy. Small price to pay if you really need it)
4. Maps/ GPS:
Installed google maps. Works fine, but I was use to the voice guided thing, (FREE). Also I found another FREE gps app that is voice guided but I have not had luck getting it to work, it's called "Amazegps". If anybody has heard of it and is using it, please let me know how.
5. SMS:
NOTHING YET. I have read up on some ways to get it done, but they seem a little cumbersome to get to work. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.
Everything else seems to work fine. I'm not a phone tech or anything, so if any of the info above is misleading or sounds a little wierd, sorry. Anyhow don't know if anyone is thinking of switching over to save some $$$$, but I did. Any other suggestions or feedback would be greatly appreciated. - 04-01-2009, 07:39 PM #2
Hey i also heve a 8350 with boost mobile, and my work around for texting is using AOL. They have a IM to text setup that is free. The only thing is the people have to accept your text, but i mostly add my people and then they dont have to accept anymore.

i cant even access the internet to begin with. It keeps telling me to setup a wi-fi connection. how do i install opera mini without an internet connection? to what folder is it downloaded. excuse me if these are dumb questions I just got the phone and only am able to place calls.

no problem i was there also to download opera mini you need to be in a wifi zone if you have a wireless internet at your home or work it will work if not go to a village inn or coffee house they are usually free if you get get something with them so next thing is to press the menu key scroll down to the manage connections application it will have wifi in it check the box or just go into "set up wifi network once your in hit next and then hit scan for networks it will start searching and thine select the network you want some need a code so if it does you need to enter it once your connected press the end button go back into the manage connection and see it wifi has a check in the box then exit and if you connected correctly next to where it says nextel you will have a - and then the wifi hosts name then go into the browser and go to google and search for opera mini it once you found it select the bb version and start downloading once its done press the menu key and go to your downloads and it should be in there click on it it will take a little while to upload for the first time but once your in your ready to go you will always have to access it through your downloads though hope this helps also check out boostberry workarounds just run a search and it should pop up on this site hope this helps

all that just to pay $50 a month nah not for me i'd rather pay and my phone work right. also what if your phone breaks remember boost doesnt have insurance like sprint and they dont have repair centers. i mean if you have the money to pay for a bb why wouldnt you be able to afford the plan also they do have other data plans. i'm on the everything 450 for $69 only $19 more than boost i dont have go through all the workarounds. but i guess to each is own at least it's good to know that you can get the bb to work on the boost network.

Can't email you yet!
Hey Kiddzfeet: I am new to the forum and can't email people yet. If you can email me with instructions to get my IDEN BB 8350i to work without the ridiculously overpriced Sprint/Nextel BB data plan, I would appreciate it! I mostly miss sending texts, a functioning gps app and push email. I use the built-in wifi to access the web, but that's about it.

hey dannyboy281 i cant reply to your p.mn i guess becase I'm new and have less then 10 post but yes i can send and recieve text with gmail i just have people send the txt to my email and when i reply it goes automatacally to there phone or if i compose i send it to there number@whatevercarrier and it send the only thing that sucks about gmail is that it dosent always alert you instantly wheni you recive text or email

1. so when i have someone text me i have to as them to text it to my gmail account
2. and when i want to send out a message if i told the person to text it to me to my gmail account i can just reply and it will work but if i dont tell them to send it to my gmail i have to ask each person which provider they have or will the providers info pop up in my gmail because in the past it all text would come in as the persons#@myboostmobile.com
3. if what i stated above is exactly correct with out any errors to my understanding of what you posted i believe that the live mail method might work in a more timely fashion and will bring messages - 04-15-2009, 08:53 AM #15
The sms thing is easy because you can test it on your comp before you dl apps. I made sure I was able to send a text from my comp, just make sure tje person accepts the I'm. Also with beejive or ramble you get the messages right away. I didn't configure anything for it to work, I just dl the app and put in my info. Also the unlimited web and phone to me is more than worth the price, and the bb phone is not much more then the i9 which I feel can't do as much. I don't need pin messaging, and I get my email with gmail and opera for aol. I love my bb , and that's a firstr for any phone I've had.

if they text you to your gmail account it will pop up as the persons#@provider.com or something similar to that and if your composing something new you would have to know what provider the person you are texting has...it is very easy and pretty fast once you get use to it (the only downside is that gmail dosent always alert you instantly on your phone) the windows live app sounds alot faster and a bit bwettetr but again i still havent been able to register on sprint.com
- 04-16-2009, 01:24 AM #23
it wont work with windows live i tried it it wont let you send anything out it is fast at receiving but im currently researching a push mail "funambol" provider check out the thread below i think i almost have it up and running i just cant seem to get it installed in my bb
Shangmail install problems...
and your right its easy you just have to know the persons provider unless you tell them to sms you to your gmail and not with your mobile number
and as for texting im just using beejive with aol messenger aka AIM you just put +1 then the persons number to send out sms but for the first sms you send out the person has to accept in order to for you to hold a conversation and its in real time so its fast but it will only work work aol i tried my google talk messenger and it did not work it also cool because you can save your contacts names and they tell you if they are onlineLast edited by dannyboy281; 04-16-2009 at 01:34 AM.

Ok I was hoping I could figure this out on my own but I'm getting a headache after 2 days of trying and I have finals to study for. So here is in hopes that someone had the same problem and could help me out please.
I did the sms/mms workaround and it works fine. Gmail as everyone states takes to long to alert but none the less it works! Now my hotmail is a different story. I recieve the date/time and the number that sent me the text but NO TEXT. I go to my hotmail acct and the message is under my inbox but is shows up as "this message has been blocked for your safety" I have to hit the open message link in order to see it.
So if I don't know how to stop windows from blocking my incoming txt. I'm sure if i can do that then the actual txt will appear on my phone. Anyone?
