$50 vs $60 on Boost
I have an 8350i and I'm paying for the 50.00 unlimited. Because it is a blackberry, what would be the difference if I got the 60.00 unlimited for the blackberry from Boost. What would be the difference? Would I get better internet service?

If you wanted a fully functional BlackBerry with Boost you would have to use the Boost 8330 with the $60 plan. The browsing on the 8330 would be quicker since it's on Sprints CDMA network, you would also have access to BlackBerry functions such as BBM and the native BB email.

The biggest difference would be that I would not have my push to talk on the 8330. That is the reason I went to the 8350i and put it on boost. So could I still do it with the 8350i?

There is no way you can do anything about the browsing..Iden is just SLOW!
As far as getting the $60 plan with the 8350i, I almost positive you cannot. As far as I know the only way to get the BB data package is if you have the 8330. Since the 8350i is not a boost approved phone they would not set you up with the BB package. If there is a workaround I don't know about it and I'm pretty sure there isn't.

I heard they were bringing the 8350 back to Boost. I checked and it is on their website for 299.99. The only difference is it does not say it has push to talk.

Yeah just saw the 8530 online (not the 8350i)..hmmm, had no idea... Do I really need ptt??? Unfortunately I do, for now at least. Definitely a nicer upgrade than the old 8330.

The 8330 doesn't have built-in wifi, either. In my house, the 8350i is the fastest BB web phone browser.

Yeah well their 8530 does have wifi, Boost starts selling it on Oct 17th. I gotta say I recently just happened to steal(not literally) a 8330(still have my 8350i) and moved it onto my account to check it out.
First off, I love the 8350i, even with some of its flaws it is a extremely nice Blackberry. But it's kinda like taking a new Ferrari(blackberry) and putting a circa 2001 Kia 4 cylinder engine(Iden network) in it(instead of the handmade monster V8), and expecting it to perform like a regular ferrari.
There's gonna be some issues...that being said, yes one of the important differences is or values of the 8350i is the PTT. If you need that function, and want a blackberry then this is your phone. Because even with it's super slow service, you can still modify it(with apps) and make it do everything any other Blackberry can basically do.
Otherwise, the difference between the 8330 and 8350i on boost is night and day, you really get the true Blackberry experience with the 8330. Where to start: The web is very fast compared to the 8350i, the GPS is lightning fast compared to the 8350i, the ability to view streaming videos, ability to listen to streaming music without skipping or being forced to cache. Really, I could go on, it was truly an amazing experience watching this 8330 come to life after provisioning and modifying everything and using the phone the past week. It is my second Blackberry, the 8350i being my first, and even though I don't use BBM(yet) and really see no point for paying the extra ten dollars for the supposed BIS/BES services, I will happily pay it to be able to use this Blackberry on Boost. I would highly recommend it now, that is, as long as you don't need PTT.
I will probably move to the 8530 as soon as the opportunity arises. Everyone talks about how old the 8330 is, plus its a Curve(the entry level Blackberry series). So I can only imagine what it must be like to use say a Torch or Bold, one of the high line, brand new Blackberries. I really look forward to it. - 10-14-2010, 02:21 AM #9
Well after using this phone for a week or whatever I gotta say the memory shortage is not only mind boggling but a big pain in the rear end. Why it only has 96mb I can't understand, it seriously disables the users ability to customize the phone. Also, the dropped calls is a brand new thing for me, on the Iden 8350i I think I might of had one dropped call in the 5 or 6 months I used the phone. This CDMA 8330 on the other hand seems to drop calls a lot. Especially, in large buildings, the other day in the grocery store I glanced at my phone and saw I had a x and zero signal strength. Walked out of the store and was instantly 1XEV full bars. That never happened with the 8350i.
Anyways, I realized that I almost have to have a BB with larger memory, maybe a switch to the 8530 will help. - 10-17-2010, 02:03 AM #10
Night and Day...Absolutely accurate!!!
Well...for starters...I LOVE my 8350i...Like Still83FiFty said with all it's flaws it's still the best option for people that need PTT. (I still do but starting to want better...) I've had my 8350i, coupled with boost for about 7 months, upgraded to 5.xxx; reloaded service books, blah, blah, blah. At the end of the day I started asking myself: is this worth having to do all this work-around s*** for $50.00? I mean, I am all the way hands on...but Gawd Dang, main!!! It seems like you REALLY gotta work to keep the 8350i functioning optimally!!!
I recently wanted to upgrade my housing for my 8350i cause I bought it from ebay and it was kinda beat-up. After securing a shop that didn't rape me for the housing swap ($40.00) I did some research about the 8330, which Boost for awhile was selling for about $260 new. I learned that 8330 was closer to a truer "Blackberry" experience: BIS/BES, BBM & faster internet. And as an added bonus some to the offerings for replacement housing are VERY attractive (ALL colors that you can imagine...8350i offerings were very limited...Fonlogix,anyone??? And recently learned an aftermarket case could possibly be the reason the phone drops service, especially if it hasn't been installed correctly...)
Fast-forward about 3 weeks ago: my wife started complaining about her Motorola Hint handset from (cough, cough) Cricket...(cough, cough) (I swear...whenever I called her it ALWAYS sounded like she was under water...maybe she was...
) So I did more research. Low and behold: Boost started carrying 8530, which if I'm not mistaken officially has wifi built in and 3G speeds for the internet; BIS and BBM natively. I bought it...she hates/loves it...I'm jealous!!!
In a nutshell...honestly...if I had to do it again back when I bought my 8350i, I probably would buy a 8330 (I know, I know...8330 is out dated & entry-level...). Not because I don't love the 8350i, I do. Lately, I have been having issues with the internet not connecting OTA and Shangmail is the s***s. (Forgive me...I've reinstalled Shangmail twice) If reliability costs $10.00 more bux a month I'm about ready to spend that and swap out my handset. If I REALLY had my way I probably would go with a torch...Need to fix my credit for that, though.
