2.5mm to 3.5mm, No not another adapter question.
As we all know, the 8350i is plagued with the POS 2.5mm headphone port.
I was wondering if anyone would know if the 8350i would be able to accept a 3.5mm port like say from an 8330 after removing the 2.5mm and replacing it with the 3.5mm.
I found a 3.5mm port on eBay. If you search "Blackberry 8330 3.5mm port" you can see what I'm talking about.
Thanks in advance.Sucks To Be You

yes there are adaprters the only thing is that foind and adapter that has the converter in the middile of line well unless you dont bother to have the 2.5 next to the 3.5 on the side of you phone, best way is to have it in the middle so you can move around
hope this helps

Don't take this as me being rude or anything, I'm just frustrated...if you're not going to take the time to READ the title then please don't comment.
The thread clearly states that it is NOT another ADAPTER QUESTION.
With that being said, I've tried plenty of adapters that do work, they just don't last that long. I can't post links yet but I asked that you do a search on eBay for "Blackberry 8330 3.5mm headphone port" and you will see what I'm talking about.
My ultimate question, and I hope that I can make it clearer is: if we disassemble our Blackberry 8350i and remove the 2.5mm headphone port, can it be replaced with a 3.5mm headphone port like thats in the 8330's, considering that the phones are pretty much identical?
Thank you in advance for your help.Sucks To Be You

Even if you could replace the 2.5mm jack with a 3.5mm jack, which you cannot since the components involved are surface mount devices (SMD) and cannot be unsoldered and resoldered using a regular soldering iron, the problem will remain. The jack is purely a mechanical conector and has nothing to do with the way the connections are wired or, more importantly, the way the software intermrets what is being plugged in.
The fact is, you really do need an adapter. Why? The 2.5mm jack is set up to accept a headset with a microphone, a headphone and a little switch that hangs up a call or mutes it.
Becuase of this, you cannot directly plug a normal pair of headphones (three connector jack) into the software enabled four pole socket.

I talked to my service tech guy. he told me the board pins and socket are completely different on the 2.5 on an 8350i and other 3.5 sockets that are used on other 8300 series curves.
he said that it is not a drop in fit.
that sucks, i was gonna have him do mine.
it was a great idea though..Thanked by:silentkiller223 (02-20-2011)

I'd like to thank you for taking the time to actually find out if it was possible. It's unfortunate that it doesn't. Had it been possible I would've immediately gotten it done, lol
.
Again, thanks your help. Guess we will have to live with the dreaded 2.5mm and its adapters just to be able to listen to music
