I've had my Curve 3G on the UK network '3' since September 2011 and has had no major issues. I dropped my phone in water in November and it dried out to work perfectly fine. suddenly last wednesday my phone was working fine until all of a sudden there was no 3G. Ive rang my network and they said it's the handsets issue, however there was no damage done to it during recent times. When the Sim is in the phone i either get a lowercase '3g' or SOS, but even with the lowercase 3g i cannot text/call or use any blackberry services.

I often get 'No service' or 'Searching for network' too.
My sim works perfectly in my spare nokia phone, and also i tried to put my friends Sim (same network) and the issue was still present

Well dropping it in water was certainly not the way to go.. All I can say is.. Hopefully its still under warranty :P
