Can you make a battery change without rebooting the device?
So my grandpa has a BlackBerry Curve 9330 and he is always complaining about the battery life. I know...a lot of this is kind of his fault (keeps wifi and GPS on when not needed or all the time and never locks the screen so it stays on for a while; all these will significantly affect the battery life) and I keep telling him but he either doesn't listen or it is too complicated for him to do. I was thinking about getting him a spare battery. The only problem is: I wouldn't want him to complain about how he has to reboot the phone all the time. If the phone is plugged in, can you just make the battery swap with the phone still on, or would it still reboot as if the phone was not plugged in? I have used BlackBerrys but never had a spare battery so this isn't my field.

Removing the battery will cause the device to reboot, whether it is plugged in to the charger or not.--Laura Knotek (formerly known as lak611)

Best bet is to get a simple external charger for the spare battery. Once a battery is removed it disables the power circuits, which are partly controlled by the battery itself. Another alternative is an extended battery.
