i would go in a demand a new device on the spot.
I would not do this technical service BS.

make a huge scene and get a new device.
7 days is pure bullocks, in Canada we have 14 and i still feel that, that is too short.

Had exactly the same problem mate, my BB is an unbranded but using on O2. Turns out my sim card was not 3G as it was quite old, popped in brand new sim and the 3G didnt just flicker on for a moment but was continuous, Quick call to O2 an they shifted my number to my new sim and my remaining balance plus bolt ons etc.
Altho i warn you now 3G on a blackberry does not seem much faster than gprs or edge other then while streaming videos as my 3GS runs much faster on O2

Thank you for your replies, if the problem could be the SIM card, tomorrow I'll try to go to a shop and try my device with another sim card (that must have a BIS).

I think it has to do the antenna, try borrowing a 3g enabled phone and check if that can pickup a 3g signal if not then its a carrier issue else its your phone, it has nothing to do with bis, because even if you don't have a bis activitated, you will still see a 3g icon on the top without the bb logo.

The main problem it could be is the fact your sim card isn't 3G enabled. Networks used to supply customers with 2G sim cards but due to 3G handset being available, networks only give 3G enabled sims out to their customers even if they are going to use the sim card in a 2G enabled handset so that if the customer decides to move to a 3G handset he/she can do so with ease and still benefit from 3G network speeds/service. Hope this is of help.
