9300 Trackpad Issue (Possible Fix)
Hey guys, first post here. Just switched from an iPhone to a Blackberry for my personal phone. I have a Bold 9780 for work and at first I didn't really like it but it grew on me. So, figured I would get one for myself as my iPhone was driving me nuts (touchscreen issues and just all around software limitations).
Anyway, at first the phone was great, then I started having an issue where the trackpad would just keep shooting to the top of the screen. Found a couple bandaids on the internet (carboard trick under the battery and tape over the pad) none of which worked for me. Kept reading about trackpad replacement and that too, which bothered me. Maybe moisture getting into it or something, I'm not sure.
Anyway, I pulled it apart tonight and tried something. Just literally reseating the ribbon cable. But at the same time, I cleaned out the contacts with WD40 (I know, I know, some people say it's bad for electronics, but w/e it's my phone so I tried it. Works great on other electrical contacts that I have worked with). It so far appears to be working quite well. Back to the way my Bold works.
I used this tutorial to pull it apart --> BlackBerry Curve 3G 9300 repair guide
just be careful on the front screen plastic. Pry it from the top, not the bottom like I did. I accidentally separated the two covers and now have an air gap between em. Looks weird.
Hopefully this helps some other people out. I searched for a similar fix, but nothing came back. Just the usual, "send it in for repair" or "put tape on it" came back.
Your mileage may vary, so take it with a grain of salt.
