I first saw that the Classic screen resolution would be 1400x 1400 like the Passport, which seems like overkill.
Then I have seen other reports of 720x720 just like the q10 which doesn't quite hit the mark of 300 ppi which I think is important.
I think the ideal resolution would be 960x960. It's the same as the wide resolution of the z3 and gets the ppi over 300 at 388 ppi.

In my opinion less than 300 is too low and over 400 is just silly.

    But is the 720 confirmed?

Nothing is official, but 720x720 is pretty much it. It should be about as sharp as the Z30. Yes, there will be devices like the Passport that are sharper, but it will still be plenty sharp at nearly 300ppi.

    Screen is a 3.5" 720x720 LCD - 290ppi

    Others (Approx.)

    PPI on Q10: 330

    PPI on Z10: 356

    PPI on Z30: 295

    PPI on Z3: 220

    PPI on Passport: 453

Keep in mind both the Q10 and the Z30 are using a pentile matrix for their SuperAMOLED screens, which reduces the effective PPI by quite a bit. It should be at least as sharp as a Z30, if not sharper.

    from where you got this?

This would be a "downgrade" for the Classic, because it has less dpi than the Q10. And in my opinion, the Q10 has a good size to screen resolution, even small letters are good readable.

So if they increase the screen size, they should stay with the same dpi and thus need an higher resolution.

Nobody ever made a screen shot with a Classic alpha device?

I really don't like the q10 screen. It seems grainy and looks bad next to my z10. Perhaps 720 will be decent if they improve the display technology.

I would like to see this compare favorably to the iPhone 4/4s which also has a 3.5 inch screen. To get similar dpi, 800x800 would be needed. That comes out to 323 and would be about perfect as long as it's a good LCD and not the grainy thing they put on the Q10

I see your point but the difference would be pretty negligible IMO.

Wasn't it 1440 square on both?

Was one of the positive things about it.

I heard 1440 but then heard 720. Not sure. But it had better be a better screen than the q10.

OK, but this is only 640x640, so it is down-scaled?

I SINCERELY hope that's preliminary and gets a boost before final. I totally buy into the Passport model of "Work Wide" and the comparison of working with text and spreadsheets on PP vs other devices.

That's a huge buy-in point for us mobile professional folks: content visibility. I think that's one new area of focus all Chen-ified devices should zero in on for a consistent competitive advantage and marketing messaging.

So fingers crossed that we're in for a nice surprise with a 1440x1440 display. 720 gets the job done but it's starting to show it's age and limitations.
