Just learned a new trick: to silence your ringer quickly you can simply swipe down from the home screen and just tap the bell (ringer) icon left of notifications to silence or turn your ringer back on. I always thought it was annoying to go into settings and then notifications and then scroll thru that tiny dropdown of available profiles. Hope this is of value to someone. BlackBerry Classic continues to impress...

This is also customisable to go between two different profiles. I have my Q10 set to go between the Normal and Vibrate Only profiles.

You can also just hold the Q key; that's even faster.

Yeah, in that Quick Settings tray that you have open; you can click any object that has the icon separated from the name of the icon, and that will perform a quick action.

For example, the cell tower icon is separate from the words Mobile Network. So if you click on the icon of the cell tower, it will quickly shut off the radio. Clicking the icon a second time will turn the radio back on. Whereas clicking the words Mobile Network will open up further network settings.

However, the flashlight icon has no separation from the words Flashlight. So whether you click on the icon, or the words, you will get the same results.

Hope this helps make your BlackBerry that much better for you

    There's also:

    Settings
    Advanced Interaction
    Flip to Mute

Then if you get a call you want to silence, just flip the phone over.

I'm afraid to set that in case I accidentally silence the alarm in the morning. Does it even apply to it?

I don't think so. The setting says it's only to silence ring tones.

Unless you know something I don't, I haven't been able to find a way to change what profiles the long press for Q switches between. It only gives normal and silent. I stay on vibrate only 99% of the time, so the long press of Q doesn't do anything for me.

Why not swipe down from the top in the phone app and go into Settings > and toggle the setting for Silence Ringer there?

If you actually use silent (I've NEVER used silent), then that works. If you want to toggle between any other modes (I use vibrate only and normal) holding Q only toggles between silent and normal regardless of what you set your quick settings to.

Thanks for the posts. I'm eligible for an upgrade at Verizon but this forum helps me from giving in to something new and shiny (probably a 6s+). Can't give up tips like these along with the pkb and call quality.

Why not just hit the Mute key, between the volume rockers? That should work... to be confirmed.

Think you're misunderstanding the post... BTW, what you're talking about you can press any of the keys, not just the "mute" key.

Yah, he's talking about quickly changing the sound profile, not silencing it while it's ringing. That's what you were talking about right?
