So when my friend sends me short videos via text they are extremely blurry and low quality. I know he's sending it from an iPhone is that why?

The quality is reduced to transfer as an mms message.

Try emailing the video file.
Or use the 'transfer file' feature of BBM.

Within the BBM conversation, click the paperclip icon to attach something.
Then in the attachment options, click on the word 'file'.
After clicking 'file', you will see a screen that asks you to select the file you wish to transfer. So browse to that video, or click 'search' and type in the title of your video.
Then send!

Yup! But that's just one solution.
You can still email the file, if you have your email set up.
Or use Dropbox(OneDrive, Box etc) if you have that.
Or use a different application of your choosing.
