Are there any rumors about the screen panel tech for the Q20? This is the one area that might force me to buy the Q30 instead (as it'll have an LCD). I prefer a classic rgb stripe subpixel arrangement and an ips lcd. The Q10's pentile arrangement and Amoled screen cause me headaches and nausea on occasion.

So is there any word about what kind of panel tech might be implemented in the Q20?

The specs haven't been released as yet.. The only ones who may know are under NDA's and can't tell us.

Nothing was told regarding screen type details about the Classic at last week's BlackBerry Expierience event in London.

Any news on the screen tech?
Sounds funny but my wife really likes to have the room dark (pitch black) when she's sleeping.
She complained that my 9900 (LCD) was too bright in bedside mode. She never complained about the Q10. With it's nice true black background the Amoled puts out much less light sitting on the bedside table.
I'm really praying the Classic has an Amoled screen.

My wife complains that my Z30 is too bright. And it's true it may be AMOLED but you can't make it as dim as the Z10. The LCD (Z10/Q10) can get dimmer than the Z30.

It will most likely be AMOLED. With the PassPort being the IPS display device.

Oops. My bad. Still, my Z10 can get dimmer than my Z30.

I am embarrassed I didn't know what kinda screen the Q10 has.

Yes passport won't be amoled. The light theme proves that.

The Q10 is amoled as well. And can't dim worth a damn. I sincerely hope the Classic has an LCD screen. It's one of the nagging issues that bothers me on a daily basis. That said, I shouldn't be using my phone in bed.

Disagree. I have the Z10 (LCD) and Q10 (AMOLED) and the Z10 looks better. The colors reproduction and viewing angles are better. Whites actually look white on the Z10. The AMOLEDs always seem to look too blue in hue. If you look at it long enough, you can't tell and the AMOLED looks good and vibrant. But when you put it next to an IPS, you see where it lacks. The benefit of the AMOLED are blacks are deep and also for the battery life with using more blacks, since those pixels are essentially off.

I am not interested anymore if this is an IPS screen. I like the better contrast of the AMOLED screens, the true blacks, and the better battery life.

Coming from the Nokia world, there used to be something called the Nokia Sleeping Screen which would let you view the time in the complete dark. With IPS screens, even in the dark you are basically illuminating the entire room unless you turn the phone on its face. The Q10 and its AMOLED screen has the analagous "Bedside mode" which serves the same purpose, and is one of the nice features of an upscale phone. I will wait to the next iteration if the Q20 has both IPS AND a non-removable battery.
