Q10 user with a couple of questions about the Classic
- I am currently a Q10 owner and would like to upgrade to a Classic, but I have a few questions about a couple specific features of the Classic.
Firstly I would like to know if the Classic gets hot and overheats like the Q10. Mine gets uncomfortably hot at times especially when using Android apps.
Secondly, is if the speaker quality and volume has improved or been reduced in anyway.
Lastly, is about the screen quality and size. Is the screen any wider than the one on the Q10? Also, how do the blacks look, are they dark or more on the grayish side?
Thanks in advance.
(if anyone would like to add any other ways which they feel the Classic is an improvment (or not) please feel free)

- It gets hot when I charge it. I do abuse my phone, it's always on, always doing something and will at times get hot, but not too hot to make me put it down.
The speaker is nice and loud. The screen is kinda small but it's bigger than the Q and wider than the Z. After awhile the size becomes comfortable.
Trackpad, toolbelt, and the keyboard work so intuitively with the os that I barely have to use the touch screen, but when I do that works great as well. This is an amazing phone, it begs to be used and abused lol.

Posted via CB1008-01-15 10:45 PMLike 0 - Heat is rarely an issue on the Classic but I never had much on my Q. Occasionally of the QI charger and when an app gets hung, usually android.
LCD screen on the Classic is much nicer, cleaner color and the incremental increase in size is a big plus despite the lack of increased pixels. Blacks look great, not as dense as the Q's but much more natural looking
Most people would see it as a big upgrade from a Q.
You will find the tool belt is also a great plus. It's not necessary but I like having the trackpad and dedicated keys back.
Not as pocketable as the Q but really nice to use. My favorite device of all the berries and frankly any phone.
Posted via CB1008-01-15 11:18 PMLike 0 - I went from a Sprint Q10 to a Cobalt (blue) Classic on T-Mobile.
For me, carrier feature upgrade aside (now I have visual voicemail, better coverage, international data, etc) my biggest concern was the phone not "feeling" like an upgrade.
The Classic has virtually the exact same specs as the Q10, a phone several years it's senior. The toolbelt, something sort-of useful IMO, just doesn't warrant the space it occupies. I'd rather have the phone slightly longer and use that toolbelt and bezel (I think that's how it's spelled) real estate as more screen size. Don't get me wrong, the trackpad is a great legacy feature for fine highlighting or using the browser cursor, but is unnecessary on a slightly bigger screen or coming from the Q10 where we've learned to live without it (And frankly not miss it).
I LOVE the battery on the Classic, the build feels high quality, slick, amazing to hold and gorgeous. The back design and metal edges make it feel very modern and gets a lot of compliments. The speaker is high quality, the keyboard is awesome (same as the Q10), the screen is much improved in color contrast and slightly bigger than my Q10. But again, the Q10 (a highly underrated device) was packing many of these punches in 2013. I expected more from the Classic, either under the hood with more RAM or much improved OS, but I feel like I'm using the same, slightly upgraded Q10.
If you're upgrading from a legacy device the Classic is a massive upgrade and absolutely worth the purchase. If you're coming from a Q10 it will feel like the same phone with a slight upgrade (and if you're a hardcore BlackBerry user, it'll be worth it.)
Personally, I'm considering the Passport and will just have to get used to the 3 row keyboard (although the screen alone may have sold me regardless.)
Posted via CB1008-02-15 02:19 PMLike 0 - I totally agree about increasing the screen size. If Blackberry does decide to come out with another traditional sized Blackberry, I would rather they ditch the toolbet and just put a bigger screen that takes up that space instead.
I am happy with the q10 performance for the most part, but I do experience the phone get uncomfortably warm, but I'm not sure if the Classic wouldn't have these problems since it's using the same internals. And if I set the phone down with some force the phone restarts because of the loose battery (the classics sealed battery will hopefully address this). I also read some people say the speaker sounds worst than the Q10 speaker, which is another concern for me.
The passport is way too big for me personally. The screen is beautiful but I would have trouble using that thing on a day to day basis.
Posted via CB1008-02-15 05:04 PMLike 0 - Mine does not get hot but is same performance with android apps compared to Q10.
I agree coming from so similar internal hardware...not dare to say is a upgrade...probably "facelift" suits better with not big improvements.
However, I love my Blueberry.
Posted via CB1008-02-15 07:43 PMLike 0 - I have Q10 and a classic.
Q10 is awfull because bightness is not high enough. You will not have this issue with the classic.
Q10 has a removable battery (and cover). Yes it's great to be able to change the battery on the Q10 but the phone feels fleemsly because overtime, the cover will because loose. In the hands I think the classic feels much more robust than the Q10.
Screen feels a bit bigger on the classic with is great.
Classic is not faster than the Q10 (they both have same processor and RAM specs.

Posted via CB1008-02-15 08:59 PMLike 0 - The Classic screen is definitely better, although the blacks aren't true AMOLED blacks. I never really notice the 'grey' unless I'm using it in the dark. The screen is noticeably bigger and easier to see in sunlight.
Performance should be the same as a Q10 on 10.3.2
It has gotten hot if I'm out in the sun on a hot day while using it, though never uncomfortably so. I wouldn't say that heat is a problem with the Classic.
Battery life is very solid and I love the toolbelt. Web browsing and text editing is definitely superior on the Classic.
From a Classic08-03-15 10:45 AMLike 0 - Loving the Classic. Trackpad is a must to keep clean the screen and one hand ops. Perfect for a "street warrior" I think
Posted via CB1008-03-15 01:54 PMLike 0 - I did also fail to mention in the latest update 10.3.2.2666 there is an unbelievably annoying blue highlight box that engulfs any picture or block of text that is touched, even while scrolling on the Classic.
Obviously a simple software bug but annoying, especially considering that BlackBerry support won't correct it since "my carrier" doesn't support the latest update.

But isn't the blue highlight there to show the position of the trackpad. That does seem like it could be annoying though, especially when trying to view pictures.
Posted via CB1008-03-15 03:41 PMLike 0 - Does it get hot when doing regular tasks, like browsing the Web, watching youtube videos or playing podcasts (with all native BlackBerry apps)? It seems like now my Q10 gets hot no matter what I'm doing. Since the Classic uses the same internals I was wondering if that phone has the same problems.

I think my Z10 got hotter than the Classic. I abused that phone too.

Posted via CB1008-05-15 01:55 PMLike 0 - I was a Q10 owner 10 months, afterwards I bought a passport but I only had it 6 months, finally I bought a classic. My best decision, it's better than Q10 in a lot of features and it's easier to manage than passport because the size, the classic has the perfect size.

That blue haze focus really is annoying, tho. BB10 developers REALLY need to USE the stuff they're throwing out here.BlackQtCoder likes this.08-07-15 04:09 AMLike 1 - AFAIK, the most convenient and apt BB10 devices to play android games and apps are either the Passport, Z30 or Z10. Passport being the most proper because it has the biggest RAM. Android games and apps are notoriously bad with memory management and naturally suck and demand more towards RAM and battery--hence the tendency for the devices to get warm. Z30 and Z10 are proper for the screen type, but still cannot hold a candle against the Passport in terms of power.08-07-15 11:12 AMLike 0
