classic is 349 on launch. q10 was 549-ish. the specs haven't been released as far as i know but some indications/posts point towards similar specs between the classic and q10. maybe the q10 was over-priced on launch. or could blackberry be doing 'a google' and releasing a premium phone at a killer price? the q10 certainly felt premium to me when i had one at launch but not sure if it was worth 549. 449 would have been a great q10 launch price.

what do others think, is the classic going to be just a mid-range phone as the price suggests?

Passport is premium, Classis is just a Bold 9900 replacement. It is a workhorse.

I guess it depends on how you look at it. I personally classify it as a premium device because of the high quality materials used (similar to the 9900). The battery door might not be quite as high quality as the Q10 though.

The internals are nothing to brag about of course but I imagine they made some improvements in radio reception and speaker quality compared to the Q10.

It's going to be made by Foxcon to keep the price down. I think Chen is hoping to sell it in big numbers helped by its price.

Still loving the Q10............ Until I get a Classic.

499 is not a bargain price 299 more in line, unless they surprise everyone with above average specs, and I know who cares about specs, well if they are the same as the Q10, which from the lack of anything but a short video and a pre order price, Blackberry has given nothing, unlike the passport when announced came with everything

    It isn't $499. It's $449.

Not sure why people keep saying that. It's up for preorder.

The word Premium doesn't mean anything any more. Premium ice cream, premium trim level on a car, premium coffee, premium whatever. It's just a marketing term now that means nothing. How premium is the classic supposed to be? Don't care as long as it does what I want and need. A phone shouldn't be a status symbol.

I don't think $449 is overpriced at all given howl much smartphones cost these days. I wouldn't buy it myself for that price but in no way is it not reasonable.

Wouldn't it be comparable to the Q10's build quality. Or even the 9900 build quality?

    $449 US, $499 CAD.

I'm not sure the dollar values between the two countries are such that charging $50 in Canada makes it the same price as the US one, but I'm sure it's close enough. $499 CAD isn't too much to pay for this kind of phone. It's not a flagship, so it wouldn't make sense to charge flagship prices, but at the same time, it's not a budget phone either, so it wouldn't make sense to undercharge it. It's not a Q10, nor is it a 9900, so charging the same price as either of those two phones cost new would demonstrate a lack of faith in the product on the part of BlackBerry.

    Definitely priced appropriately.

Everything cost more in Canada because of the free health-care. It needs to be paid for somehow. I couldn't imagine the. Price of a car there that's starts at just 15,000 here I'm the US

It'll definitely be better than the 9900 in build quality if the frame/bezel is milled from forged stainless steel like the Q10 is. But I don't think it'll be the same build quality of the Q10, especially with that plastic back...
