    Hello Friends!

I am a proud Classic owner. I wanted to get rid of .apk left-overs and wished to clean my unit and start afresh. So, I started my Security Wipe last evening. Its been over 13 hours now..... its still going on. When I touch the screen and hold, it says 96%.

    Is this normal?

Why does it have to take so long? Will my phone be normal after the wipe? Yes, I do have a backup on BlackBerry Link.

Well, have been using it for about an year now..... Had quite a few email ids configurated, the usual assortment of apps (many of them downloaded through Snap), WhatsApp, lots of sms, etc.

The Wipe was fast from 0 to around 80. After that its around 0.5 % every hour. Reads 97% now.

The message on the screen alternates between : "Security Wipe" and "Erasing Memory".

This is a common issue with security wipe - i did one on my Passport and it took literally days. So i did my research and the best thing to do is force the unit to restart (while 'stuck' in security wipe) after that, it will say something like you would need to reload the OS - download and reload it and that solves your problem.

    Hmm, Okay.

Its stuck @ 97 % for nearly 3 hours. I will wait for 2-3 hours more. Then, force restart the unit.

What is the best way to reload the OS : through the Blackberry Link or do I need to go through the Autoloader?

If you feel that Autoloader is the best, can you point me to the best link in this forum, which will give me a step-by-step guide?

    Thanks a ton!

I used BB Link. Did the same job in loading the OS.

So, I presume that once I force-start my unit, and the BB tells me that a Re-load is necessary, I simply plug my unit to the PC, start BB Link, point to the necessary Re-load option and the system will do the rest! Right?

    Thanks a lot.

I encountered this with my BlackBerry Z10 and the security wipe took about more than 24 hours. I just pull the battery and insert it back then the wipe took fast and back to normal again

    Thanks a lot, guys!

Messed up really this Security WIpe. I encountered a similar issue with my Q10 too. Why cant Blackberry take care of such issues?

Besides, the BB Link is really very slow. Restoring takes a long time by competition-standards.

Anyway, I followed Karloil and forced-restart my unit. After some painful moments, I got the bberror.com/bb10-0015 error. I hooked to BB Link and reloaded the software. Was forced to restore the data which I had backed up (alongwith the junk, which I wanted to get rid off).

    Back to square one.

Why do I love my BlackBerries so much that I dont want to shift elsewhere, is beyond me.

    Thanks everyone.

There's an option to reload the OS and not do a restore. If you can't figure it out the same way i did, then try the autoloader option instead

When I reload the OS (via the BB Link, I presume), does it wipe out all data on the unit? Or does the data remain intact?

    Nopes. Not that lucky, me.

However, yes, some facebook features like Sharing from within WhatsApp which were missing earlier, have been restored when I downloaded Face10.

Did you download some other version of Facebook ? Or from some source other than BB World?

i didn't download it myself... after i approved the update when my phone requested for a software update of 10.3.2.2836. I was surprised to see that the facebook app was automatically downloaded. it is the old FB app from bb world...
