I have a new BB Classic, up from a Bold. I've had BBs for years and years. On my Bold, while in almost any app, including on a call, I could hit the BB button and select "Switch Applications" without losing the first app or dropping the call. I've tried this - no menu for switch app. I've tried just going to another app via swiping the page to get to the screen that shows all the apps. This hangs up the call. Since my calendar is in my phone and I often have to look at it while on the phone, i NEED to be able to do that. How???

Just swipe up as if you where minimizing an App, it takes you to the Homescreen and you get a little Green box at the top of your screen with call details

On all bb10 devices I've used I've always been able to swipe up to minimise the phone app and multitask whilst still on the call.

You will get a green bar at the top of the screen to show the call is still active.

On the Classic you should also be able to hit the back key on the tool belt to minimise the phone app

You didn't say which way you swiped. You should be able to swipe up vertically from the very bottom of your screen to minimize the Phone app, just like you would with any other app. Then you can swipe across the screen if needed to get to your calendar or any other app.

you can hit the arrow back button on the tool belt and it will minimize the current app

Laughing at how complicated you made it sound on the Blackberrys of yesteryear. Just swipe up from the bottom of the screen, don't let go while your finger is on the end call button.
