I know it is capable because I HAVE done it by accident. I just can't figure out how.

Hold the shutter until proper focus is obtained, then release to take the picture.

I know it is capable because I HAVE done it by accident. I just can't figure out how.

You can hold down the "Capture" button at the bottom in the middle. This will force the camera to focus and once it's focused you can let go and it will take the shot.

You can also click on the object on the screen and this should focus the camera on that spot.
