Thanks for your info. But untill now in my experience, iPhones have charged faster than my BB10 phone. Though their batteries drain faster also

Because iphone battery has smaller capacity, thus charge faster. And discharge much faster my ip5 barely last 20 hours (I'm not even like touch it all day, just for some messages) and the q5 never failed to live the whole day, with constant use of 3G and whatsapp, web sufring, emailing etc

For the Canucks in the thread, I got a 1.8 amp blackberry oem wall charger at Princess Auto in the surplus section for 5 bucks. No issues so far.

Ignoring your sarcasm, they aren't better at everything. But what they are better at, I see no harm in accepting that and trying to learn from it. Their software is more efficient. How they do it I don't know.

It really is safe to charge your device with a higher output rating, but over time, it will have an impact on your battery's life. Batteries can wear faster than normal if not charged using its specified charger. You will not notice this instantly, though.
Especially with sealed battery devices. Be nice to your batteries Nothing like having to throw away your phone when your battery dies in two years.

I hate to over charge my phone so I almost never put my phone on charge while going to bed because I sleep minimum 8 hours. I am not sure what good will the extra 5.5 hours do.
The circuitry stops charging when the battery is full. I charge my Z10 on the slower charger that came with it every night. It's plugged in for 7-8 hrs every night.

I also use the PlayBook charger once a day to top off the battery. It's usually around 40% when I get home.

If I cook the battery from the rapid charging, so be it. It's an easy swap on the Z10. If only I could find a local retailer that bothers to stock the battery charger bundle. The Q10 battery is available, but not the Z10.

Genuine OEM or a good knock-off?

Looks OEM to me. For 5 bucks I guess it doesn't matter. Still charges much faster than the charger from the box.

I'd be concerned. Here's a good read on real vs. fake chargers. This teardown is of an Apple charger, but the concepts are the same: Ken Shirriff's blog: iPad charger teardown: inside Apple's charger and a risky phony

    Hopefully it's the real deal.

But iOS is more efficient than BB10. So it does still charge faster. Not only does it have a higher rated charger than most BB10 phones but also a more efficient OS. Also the smaller battery helps in saving time

iPhones/iPods do charge quickly... and discharge even faster. lol @ the comment about iOS8
