- From the Hub, usually I can just "touch and hold" on a text or "Trackpad push and hold" and the side menu comes up, and at the bottom I can choose "delete". Suddenly this feature has stopped. Pressing and holding initiallly does nothing but then after several seconds the text replay screen with the entire thread pops up.
This is a text I have responded to and with the original post from someone else that makes two entries total in the thread. I mention this as it seems more often than not I can delete a thread of three entries or more. (but not always)
Any thoughts as to the cause?
And while we're on the subject - what causes the icon in the right column to turn into a trash icon? It seems when I start to delete things clusters of things, the item I want to delete initially has a trash symbol but as soon as I touch it, (or ever scroll up or down) that symbol turns to the replay symbol and I have to use the side menu with a push and hold to do the deleting (that is when its working). Items above an below can have trash symbols or reply symbols all of which can suddenly change - there doesn't seem to be any pattern to what determines when something is deletable with the trash icon to the right.Last edited by blackshark; 06-26-16 at 10:42 PM. 06-26-16 10:37 PMLike 0 - If you're having trouble with your hub, try restarting it.
Swipe diagonally 5 times from the top right corner of the hub, towards the middle of your screen.
If done correctly, your screen will momentarily be blank, then you will see hub icons appear in the centre of the screen as the hub loads.
After the hub reappears, give it a few mins to finish loading your conversations.
If your 'push and hold' options are laggy everywhere throughout the operating system (not just the hub) then you may need to free up some memory on your device. It's best to make sure there is always at least 1.5 gigs of free space on the device. Move some files to a SD card if necessary.
However, if the problem is just within the hub, then another way to attempt to delete a text conversation, is to scroll to the conversation and simply press the delete icon on the keyboard. It is located directly above the enter key. Try that.
Another way to open the 'push and hold' option menu is to scroll to your text message thread. Then instead of pressing and holding on that conversation, you can press the key and open the side menu that way. It's faster, and it may be functional when pressing and holding isnt.
Also, you asked about the instant action delete icons that briefly popup within your hub. These pop up as a quick suggestion and are your most common action when dealing with that type of message.
You can make these permanent by clicking the icon in the top right corner of the main hub screen. The icon looks like three lines with one check mark on top of them. It is beside the top blackberry hub drop-down menu.
If you wish to explore more options with these instant actions, then you can go to: hub -> settings -> display and action. Then scroll to the bottom of this screen and set your instant actions to whatever you prefer.
Posted via CB1006-26-16 11:17 PMLike 0 - Fantasic detailed answer thanks.
Reset of hub worked (took a few more than 5 swipes but thats just a carbon based error).
As for memory it's a fairly new phone and I just don't have anything on it yet. Two third party apps and a dozen pics.
I almost slapped my forhead when you suggested the delete key. I've forgotten it since I had the Q10. But it was a slow lived aha moment. The delete key does not delete the conversations that don't have a trash icon next to them. And I can't make those icons "permanent" but I do run with that column of the hub open all the time so that I can see those icons. But some conversations have, at least for a while, just the reply icon next to them. For those I just can't delete them. Initially I thought it was only the top message that couldn't be deleted or could not have the trash icon, but just tonight I got a flurry and some had the icon and some didn't - no rhyme or reason.
I have tried selecting the conversation, the icon to the left (the type it is) and then using the physical delete button but nothing works if that trash icon is not present next to that entry.
I have my instant actions #2 set to delete
And pressing the BB menu physical button when an item is selected brings up the side menu all right, but delete is not one of the options (if that item didn't have a trash icon to begin with).
In an added wrinkle, I just tried to delete a newish text and I did get choices to select delete in the side menu, but nothing happened. I also tried with the physical delete button - but the message just hung around. Then, checking the phone a few minutes later, it was gone. Why the delay?06-26-16 11:46 PMLike 0 - 'Fantasic detailed answer thanks.'
Any time.

You're right. That's not much. That shouldn't be an issue.
'I almost slapped my forhead when you suggested the delete key. I've forgotten it since I had the Q10. But it was a slow lived aha moment. The delete key does not delete the conversations that don't have a trash icon next to them.'
Hmm. The delete key *should* delete text conversations, emails, bbm conversations etc.
'And I can't make those icons "permanent" but I do run with that column of the hub open all the time so that I can see those icons. But some conversations have, at least for a while, just the reply icon next to them. For those I just can't delete them.'
Yes. For my instant actions column, texts and BBMs have a reply arrow beside them where emails have the delete icon.
The icon in the instant action column should not impact the functionality of your delete key(or longpress then delete)
'Initially I thought it was only the top message that couldn't be deleted or could not have the trash icon, but just tonight I got a flurry and some had the icon and some didn't - no rhyme or reason.'
All text messages should get the same instant action icon as other text messages. All emails should have the same instant action icon as other emails. All BBMs should have the same icon as other BBMs etc.
These icons are based on the type of message received.
'I have tried selecting the conversation, the icon to the left (the type it is) and then using the physical delete button but nothing works if that trash icon is not present next to that entry.'
Sorry, I must not have been clear. You don't HAVE to have the cursor in the instant action column. You can have the cursor highlighting the name of the sender, and then press delete.
But if you'd like to have the cursor over the instant action column, then the delete key should still function normally.
'I have my instant actions #2 set to delete'
I do as well. And setting them up like this will take effect on your emails.
'And pressing the BB menu physical button when an item is selected brings up the side menu all right, but delete is not one of the options (if that item didn't have a trash icon to begin with).'
When opening the side menu(with the key, or with the 3dot icon on the screen), you will notice a little arrow at the bottom of the menu that appears. This little blue arrow points to the side and says 'more' beside it. You can either click that with your finger, OR quickly brush the trackpad in that direction.
This will open up page 2 of the menu, and you will see more options there.
Page 1 will be a generic menu for the hub, and page 2 will be specific actions correlating to where your cursor is located.
'In an added wrinkle, I just tried to delete a newish text and I did get choices to select delete in the side menu, but nothing happened. I also tried with the physical delete button - but the message just hung around. Then, checking the phone a few minutes later, it was gone. Why the delay?'
There shouldn't be a delay. I'd like to help identify why. I'll keep thinking of solutions. But right now i'll check your other threads for new clues.
Also, a tip:
Since you have your instant actions column open, that enables you to quickly mark items read or unread by using the left column in the hub and clicking on the text message icon or email icon.
Posted via CB1006-27-16 12:29 AMLike 0 - I wont answer each suggestion till I've had a good go with the Volume up down reset you suggested and I performed. Already I'm noticing changes for the good. Delete seems to be working as well there is less lag in the trackpad (it seems). Even the swipe seems better. I will have a go for a day and report back.
Again stellar advice. thanks.06-27-16 12:36 AMLike 0 - 'Fantasic detailed answer thanks.'
