Hold down the blackberry key and see what apps are running in the background.

Use EDGE only

Close all apps that you don't need to have running. Do you have any apps that are updating at a set time? For example....I have BerryWeather and I have it set to update every 1 hour instead of every 15 minutes. Lower the setting on your backlight.
If you do a search here on CB you will find many great suggestions on how to save your battery life.

Go to device search and type in "battery analyzer" this should give some idea on what is draining your battery. My 9930 excessive battery drainage was due to BeBuzz for some reason?? After I deleted the app, excessive battery drainage became less of an issue.

make sure battery save mode is turned on as well. i recently installed the latest leaked OS and noticed that it was set to turn on at 20% battery life. i set it to always on. makes a difference.
as others have suggested, turn off auto app updates. Check Facebook settings, for example. I'm okay with it refreshing news feeds only when i have time to open Facebook...rather than every hour...

After you installed the latest OS, was it really good for awhile then suddenly turned bad?

Wow, battery is pathetic!!
Try to reload the OS, sometimes it changes some things and increases battery life.
Otherwise, buy a new battery, its what happened to me and new batteries and really more powerfull, but I don't know why...
Good luck! - 05-05-2012, 12:23 PM #10

I had the same issue with BeBuzz, but after fixing the LED settings it is all good. Try this and let me know if you see any difference.
Switch to Expert Mode>Options>LED Settings.
Slow Down LED Flashing After: 1 min.
Stop LED Flashing After: 2 mins.
Stop Reminders After: 5 mins.
Pause Between Flashes: 1s.
Pause Between Slow Flashes: 1s.
I hope that helps.Thanked by 3:catberryday (05-05-2012), kazn3r (05-09-2012), spencerdl (05-09-2012)

Yeah the battery analyzer will help. There's also another thread on a battery saving app that may help you. To be honest I'm getting just as good battery life as my 9700, and I'm on my phone like a madman. I use it for everything besides entertainment cause I usually have my iPad. Easily got 24+ hours yesterday with 40% left. At first my battery life sucked but configure everything, and you will love the phone for sure.

Yea actually! It wasn't improved or anything, but this randomly just started happening. I'll definitely run the Analyzer and see what's going on. I'm about to update to .391 and hope that solves problem too.
I appreciate your comments guys! Thank you for the help (love this board!) Will report here with further results
Oh, should I maybe buy the aftermarket battery ?? - 05-09-2012, 09:22 PM #16
Has to be an issue with an app you downloaded. Folks arent getting the horrible battery life they were getting months ago.
I'm pretty sure Fonzie would use a BB

At "home", I am on wifi about 2/3 of the time and I am left with 30-40% at the end of the day. When I travel, I struggle to make the day.

You should not use any third party apps in BB. it might drain battery.
actually RIM should stop supporting 3rd party app to bb. they might drain battery.
RIM should even stop 3G and 4G devices becuase of horrible battery.
EDGE or GPRS only BB with browser of wap sites and strictly no facebook, it will drain lot of battery...

Just a blanket condemnation of the BB battery is incorrect. It's about as good as any smartphone. You have some process using battery if it's dying on standby. Sometimes for instance I will start Telenav accidentally and that kills the battery in no time at all, even if it's not displayed.
Check for stuff that's phoning home all the time (Facebook is good for that, and is a battery hog), run the analyzer, reload the OS. There are a lot of things that can cause it. Do a battery pull. There might be a process hung up and not showing. I've had that happen. - 05-10-2012, 09:53 AM #25
its funny because most of the time the app that is killing your battery is an app that you have convinced yourself that you need... when you really do not.
