The Bold is a very nice phone.

If I were in your position, I'd think pretty carefully about what I need over the contract term. You may find you'd rather stay on BB7 for a while anyway.

Don't think you'd regret a Bold. Maybe wait a few weeks and see if there are some incentives. RIM is going to be writing down a bunch of BB7 inventory.

On the battery, my experience is the stock battery that came with my 9930 will last maybe 14 hours or so if I'm not monkeying around on it all day long, just doing some emails, BBM, a few voice calls, etc. Much less if I am but certainly more than 4 hours; I think I had to charge it after 8 once. Having said that I love my Bold and will feed its battery appetite as needed so I just bought a spare battery to keep charged and handy just in case. Of course battery life depends on a lot of factors in how the phone is used, apps, WIFI, 3G, etc so ymmv.

No you won't be stupid if you upgrade to the Bold 9900. RIM is notorious for releasing unfinished products, and even though the BB10 is slated to be released in Q4, I estimate about an additional six months after that before its up and running as expected....and then another six months for a BB10 with keypad......just my humble opinion. Get the 9900 and ENJOY .

In my humblest opinion the Bold 9930 is the best phone RIM put on the market. If you are the type of person who needs the latest greatest stuff then no BB10 is almost here. If you do get the 9900/9930 you will love it. It is really up to you to choose what you feel you need.

Not at all stupid, I replaced the 9780 with the 9900 and the difference in productivity is ridiculous.

It is really what the BBOS generation should have been, fast and very nimble with the touch addition.

My battery lasts all day, but much less than the 9780 but only because I now feel alot of the capabilities can be thoroughly enjoyed and i end up using it for everything.

I ignored my plan restrictions and purchased a barely used 9900 on Craigslist / Kijiji for a few hundred.

the browser is half the fun, fast and tap of spread to zoom in, bonus.

Yes if you can do it, go for it. I haven't had battery problems as some have had.

Upgrade to the Bold at your peril.

After using the keyboard you may decide not to get the full touch BB10. (& wait for the keyboard BB10 like me)

Yes the battery is horible. A normal day lasts me about 9-10 hrs with about 10 emails a day,Facebook, about 3 calls and crackberry forums every other hour or so. My discharge rate is about 9-10% an hour. And don't believe anyone that says their battery lasted over 24 hrs with normal using cause that can't be true unless they turned network and wifi off and simply used it as a clock.honestly I'd wait to upgrade. Cause once blackberry 10 comes out this bold won't be worth as much as its worth now.and RIM will forget about this model just like they've done in the past. Everything will be blackberry 10 in RIMS eyes cause this is their last chance of survival in the mobile world. I want a bb10 but from the looks of video its really not impressing me considering their not showing much. Its gonna be a secret until release day then (as always) we'll be stuck posting in the forums asking "is your blackberry doing this?" Or "why is my blackberry continuing to reboot over and over again". I hope everyone one here is prepared to get re-certified as blackberry technicians cause that's what we are. We've been repairing their FxxK ups since day one.

I don't regret it one bit. I think its a bit unfortunate that not everyone saw the value of a 9900/9930, but then again I like having a phone that not many people have.

Im "upgrading" from my 9900 to a 9700 ! Not only better battery, much better signal strenght and therefore a better voice quality, much more reliable using bluetooth earphones, no need to upgrade and reinstall your OS each month, very fast screen change and multitask run, feel better in your hand (easy to manipulate with 1 hand). I'll will only miss the keyboard...the other features i'll lose are just beauty and fun, nothing really important for a business smartphones.

I am very happy that I upgraded to a 99xx and also bought a spare battery, but rarely ever use or need it really. I will probably wait a while on bb10 until I see the kinks worked out before I buy, but who knows maybe RIM will get it right the first time and hit a home run with bb10 at launch. I'm still going to sit back and wait with my trusty Bold 9930 in my hand for a while anyway.

    I'd just wait for BB10.
Only because once BB10 comes out it might be harder to sell your Bold to cover the cost
    of a BB10 phone.
People aren't gonna way pay more than, say $225ish (which is a great price IMO), for a Bold when they have the BB10 phones out.

But if you must have a new phone then I say upgrade. It's a great device.

I still find myself preferring the 9900 even when I got a seemingly far superior phone in the HTC One X, so it really depends.

Like what the others say, think long and hard over your needs for the next few months.

If you are looking to pay a carrier subsidized price of say.. 229.00 or whatever, why not spend a little more and pick up a used Bold. They can be found on here from time to time for around 350.00.

Then you have no contract. You can then use the Bold as long as you like and then always use your upgrade later.

99xx is a great device but if you can wait for BB10 with keyboard then do so or you can always buy a used one. I myself own a 9930 and will def keep this one and wait for the keyboard version of bb10.

    Nope. Love my 9900. I went from a 9700 -> 9900. No regrets.

Battery is definitely not as good as the 9700. But I have no issues charging while I'm sleeping. I use my phone for msging and browsing whenever I'm free. By the time I get to bed the battery is around 20-30%.

This is the same dilema that my dad was pondering before he got his 9900. It's fine to get one now, but once BB10 is out, the 9900 will depreciate. IMO I'd go for the 9900 and sell it once the BB10 phones come out. Another plus is that when you don't like BB10, you can just stick to your 9900 .
BlackBerry is my phone of choice. No other phone gives me the same experience that BlackBerry does .
