Wiped out due to password attempt oversubmission
Hi everyone,
Unfortunately, I just had the same ‘wipe’ process happen to me that i have just finished reading in your forums. I, like many, was completely unaware of this! I have just moved to a Blackberry (BB) Bold 9790 from a Samsung Galaxy Android (regretting the change now) in order to access work emails (work on BES) - wanted to be more productive by answring emails on my train ride to/from work. Last week, I was told by works IT team that they’d be 'locking' my phone and that I would need a password to unlock and access work emails. It never occurred to me that if password entered incorrectly would automatically ‘wipe out all of my BB’ and work did not tell me this either. I have two twin 4 year olds whom I allowed to use BB for drawings/colour . The boys were used to accessing my android which had a bunch of stuff specifically for them. Yes, that’s how my phone got wiped. One my little guys wanted to draw and got my BB ... and you can guess what happened next… I’m very upset. I had pictures and a video with my sons and my beloved grandmother on it (my grandmother past away a two weeks ago). Even more upset now to hear that it may not be recoverable if no back up was done!!! True?? Is this a feature we can change on BB so that it doesn’t do a complete wipe out??
On my android, we had a password to get into work and after several attempts if not successful you’d be logged out of only your work related stuff, not a whole phone wipe. I had thought the same process would occur with the BB. Wish someone had told me otherwise!!!

Can someone please share how/where I can access the Assistant that’s mentioned in forum. I find it difficult (lack of time) to do a regular back on the Desktop, therefore would appreciate any suggestions of other tools available.
Also, I am guessing that there is no way to recover your stuff once wipe out occurs if you don’t have a back up?
Thanks everyone for reading, your time. I welcome any guidance and/or suggestions!

Wiped out due to password attempt oversubmission
So sorry to hear that. Unfortunately if you had no backup then I don't know of anyway to recover your data. I would use Blackberry Protect, which will backup your data regularly and wirelessly.
I also use Desktop Manager quite often to both Sync and backup my data. There are programs like BBH Tool which among other things can backup your third party apps.

Re: Wiped out due to password attempt oversubmission
Unfortunately, BlackBerry Protect is not an option for the OP. It cannot be used by BES users. It is only for BIS users.

Could there be backups on the BES server or such? I'm not familiar with BES but I assume like everything else, there will be device backups too....

Re: Wiped out due to password attempt oversubmission
I am not in the habit of backing up my data on DM as well. However, I have an app that backs up all data to my sd card on a preset interval. This way, I don't lose any data. So sorry to hear about losing your data, but guess this is all part of the learning curve. I sincerely hope that your IT dept has wirelessly backed up your data so you can get it back easily.

Re: Wiped out due to password attempt oversubmission
By default, the BES performs wireless backup's of all devices, unless IT has disabled that policy, which they usually don't. Media however, does not get backed up to the BES, so the OP's pictures would not be there, unless they were stored on a media card.

Before I tried the 10th time that deleted all of my data, I would have called the IT people
