I'm Confused because the the 9900 got an official 7.1.0.342 and the 9930 got a leaked .340 also the .340 is 40 megs lighter than the .342.
Is this .340 an interim OS for the 9930 which will eventually get 7.1.0.342??
    Thanks

Don't worry about it. OS 7 devices will see updates until BB10 is released. Even then, depending on how RIM does things in the future, we might see updates for OS 7 in particular for quite a while. (I hope)

You can count on us getting .342 or higher. And then after that, we'll get an even newer release. It'll just keep on coming, just not as quick as the 9900 series.

There have been some issues reported with .342 so I'm not sure I want it at this point.

You can't compare it that way, as the phones are different. Also, the size only reflects what is bundled in it. After I shrunk 7.1.0.342 it was less than half the original size.

Once the BB 10 release I hope RIM place majority of their software engineers on BB 10 improvements rather than OS 7 improvements. I don't see anything that can be improved on the current OS 7.1 I am running on 9900.

    What more do you need?

There is always room for improvement. I hope they don't abandon 7.x when OS 10 is released. I just got my 9900, I don't want to be stuck with the phone being the same for a couple of years waiting for an upgrade.

I see what you're saying, but considering not everyone is going to buy a BB10 phone immediately after release, the next alternative is OS 7 (assuming that, by the end of this year, OS 5 and 6 users will either have moved onto OS 7 or gotten themselves a BB 10 phone)

The specs on the OS 7 are not bad, but I do feel like they can improve to get the OS 7 ball going for atleast 2years more.

Has anyone had good success with the .340? Or are people happier with .267
    for the 9930?

I'm happier with .267. .340 was just as good except for the fact hat Mobile Hotspot kept disconnecting due to a network change. This never happened to me on .163 or .267.
