we all know what just happened with the last Facebook app killing the actual app and creating a shortcut to the mobile facebook instead and that app was 7 MB and this new Whatsapp is 9 MB so whats the deal?
Has anyone done this new WA update and will everything stay the way it is or what?

Well, I got the update notification. And after what happened to facebook. I was a bit careful and opened the reviews. And Viola! Most users were complaining that whatsapp is crashing, not working, not opening "App too old" seen often. So no. I won't take the risk of purposely destroying my already perfect whatsapp. Other than that if someone has already experimented and found out that the app has actually updated, then why not?

Googled again and someone said that the update is for "end to end" encryption and that nothing else changed, but the reviews are still unclear overall

There are no change logs for Whatsapp.

From what I can tell its a general update to include (in the main) E2E crypto.

I have it running & no problems so far.

The only thing I did notice today was - under account settings where it used to say how long your service was valid for - that's now gone... Besides that can't see any other issues so far.

Thats the idea but if it is MORE secure than BBM I do not know but maybe someone might answer that. There are a lot of discussions in the General section about which is most "secure" it seems

Despite your car's age, one thing for sure isn't anywhere near secure and that's BBOS (7).

I've just seen this round the morning UK time - also coupled with a mass go-slow of the network by the looks of it... No idea what's in this update yet & will prob wait a few days before I try

BBM over BIS is INSECURE. Its wrapped up with a common key. RIM are more than happy to provide wire-taps and the key on demand to the relevant authorities. (this is old news)

ok so WHO downloaded 2.16.18 yet? I got the notification today. I this going to destroy Whatsapp like they tried to do with Facebook by installing that lame shortcut and calling it an "update" because thats what this one is saying too.

Guys, don't you think you are acting a bit paranoid?! WhatsApps' support is going to end at the end of the year just as they said, just like BlackBerry's(!!!) support for the (old) Facebook app ended like they said. It's likely just some internal fixes most people won't even recognise.

ya and that last FB update was simply a shortcut to the mobile version of FB. People are still mad about it so YA I want to know what happens on each update and what is involved. Call it whatever you want. You think people TRUST all of these updates since they announced a death date of sometime in 2016? WRONG!

It was a simple question and I wanted a simple answer. Prepare to see more like this

not to mention I had to reinstall the Facebook app, ( they actually removed the app with the last update, maybe NOT for BB10) mobile sukz. The App works great now after they tried to wipe it
