The 9930 is the CDMA version for Verizon/Sprint/etc.
The 9900 is the HSPA/GSM version for at&t and other GSM carriers...

Yes, it's the exact same device.
Just different radios inside.Perhaps life is just that...a dream and a fear. - 07-02-2011, 12:46 AM #6

ok .. i dont know why i was under the impression that the 9900 was the bold and the 9930 was the curve touch and the curves are known to be smaller then the bold series.

9900 has Quadband GSM.
9930 has triband GSM but has a dual Band 1x2000 CDMA radio as well.

Sorry to bring up old thread, but I am just wondering if 9930 support GSM sim card? I know most of the CDMA handsets doesnt even have Sim card slot. Does 9930 has one? and more importantly does it support GSM connection? in a country where CDMA is not so reliable. thanks

I am from India and want to buy bold 4 (9900), but on one of the online shopping portals, i saw 9930 for India market @ $600, when i enquired more, they told that its the same phone as 9900. But as per your discussion, 9930 is CDMA phone, but will it work in India which is a GSM Market and will 3G work on 9930, should i buy this to be used in India Market...i hope i will not face any major problems in future :-), please reply asap

Just as a general rule - the GSM blackberries end in 00 and the CDMA ones end in 30.
Such as the curve 8330, the world edition 8830, the Tour 9630, etc. Isn't always true (Bold 9650) but it generally is.

There are many sellers on Ebay India who are quoting that the 9930 will NOT work with Vodafone India (maybe because Verizon has a tie up with Vodafone?). This might be limited to Verizon unlocked 9930's. Not sure about other CDMA branded 9930's.
e.g.:
New BLACKBERRY BOLD 4 9930 same as 9900! Unlocked GSM WORLDWIDE | eBay
BLACKBERRY BOLD 4 9930 same as 9900 : Unlocked GSM Mobile | eBay
You would be excluding Vodafone as a potential network for future.
Also resale value will be less as you cannot sell to a Vodafone user in the future. - 10-28-2011, 04:33 AM #21
Is the Bold 9930 compatible with Airtel 3G?
I have a simple query, however i have not been able to find any information on this. I know the 9900 is being sold at most retailers, however I am expecting to get a 9930 in the next few weeks. Question is would this phone be compatible with Airtel 3G i.e. would data/internet work at 3G speeds on Airtel or would i have to resort to 2G speeds?
Thanks,

You will probably get only 2G Speeds.
9930 only has 3G in some european countries.
