Using the phone (9900 AT&T) for the first time in Japan I experienced something very strange.

With WiFi turned on, I seem to be getting a much better signal coverage.

E.g. the phone might show Full Bar coverage, but once I turn the Wifi off, the coverage drops to 0 and the phone shows looking for network.

I belive in Japan the 9900 uses the the 800 band utinizing NTT Docomo Network.

I wonder if turning the Wifi off effectively turns off the 800 band too.

Should that be the case, then this should be noted by travellers who want to use this phone in Japan.

I tested more. Result: it is 100% certain that turning WiFi off will turn the corresponding band for Japan off.
