Vlingo allows you to turn your speech into text. U can compose text messages, BBM messages, twitter and fb updates, it allows u to use your voice to enter text wherever there is an edit field.

It would be if it had more dynamic interaction with the other apps on the phone and if a semi personality was added to it. I think those are a distinct possibility in the future given the popularity of siri atm.

Exactly. It's a "un-flashy" way to tell your phone what you'd like.
Siri: Will I need a raincoat today?-> "Yes, it looks like you will" (pulls up weather)
Vlingo Plus: Weather Charlotte, NC-> (googles the weather)
