Hey guys, looking for advice and you guys seem solid in that respect!

So I'm a student and in need of a phone, Basically my options are a Bold 9900, or a mid-low end android/windows phone device... My budget is around 200 euros, 175 GBP.

I know the bold is somewhat outdated but I bought a huawei phone last year and it's already gone for all intents and purposes, so I'm wary about the cheap androids.

If anyone has any ideas about this I'd be very grateful.
    Thanks,
    Stephen B

I've had a 9900 almost since they came out, and I LOVE that phone. I'm on a Q10 now, but often miss my 9900 and the things it can do.

I'd recommend it, but make sure it fits your needs.

The 9900 is recommended in my family. My move to Z10 still leaves a pair of the 9900s working. Both are heavily used and reliable so far. Each arrived early in the sale period so both have been in service for a while. Great devices.

I dont know about that...OS7 devices will remain popular in other countries for a while to come. I keep my 9900 on standby as a backup.

I hope they continue to support OS7 for at least a couple of years longer.

A really great phone and in some ways OS7 is better than 10. Go for it.

go to bbapp world on your computer. Select your area en bold9900. Search the apps that you really, really can't miss. And then think this thing over.

BB9900 is a good communicator en 'do' phone. but for games or enternainment it sucks. But for me the bold9900 is perfect.

Remeber that you need a BIS contract.

The 9900 as a communication device is not out of date IMO. For email, messaging, calendar, alarm, and phone usage the 9900 is a superb device. The BB10 devices function well and have great potential, and the Androids do certain tasks well also. The 9900 is unmatched for the tasks mentioned. FWIW.

It's a really great handset. IMHO, the only downfall is the lack of auto focus, so the camera quality is poor. Had mine a few months now, running tons of apps flawlessly, and also has the new BBM for Z10 and Q10 running as well.

BB9900 is the Best ever BlackBerry handset IMO.

Used Z10 for 3 Months and Q10 for 1, have gone back to my 9900, Productivity on OS7 is superb and with latest software and 1500ah Mugen battery it cannot be beaten by BB10.

Hope BB10 can improve, but for the moment Bold 9900 is King!

I carry the Q and the 9900, when I purchased the Q I didn't retire the 9900 and put it in a box in the closet which is what I've done with my prior BB's up till now.

I kept the 9900 activated got a new # on the Q and use both daily. As stated the BOLD is an awesome phone.

You would be way better off with the 9900 I'd say, as you've mentioned the mid range and entry level Android devices aren't particularly spectacular. The 9900 is still a solid communications device. As a student myself, communication is paramount. Having the reliability and dependability of a BlackBerry device is unmatched.

I'm not going to lie to you, there's no instagram, netflix, or games worth playing on the 9900, but if you need a phone that can be used to send messages, receive messages, make phone calls, and to use for social networking, you're going to be very hard pressed to find a device like the 9900.

The truth is, its an awesome device if you don't want to play games. Reliable, dependable, secure, and durable.

    Hey all,

    I just bought a 9930 (Verizon) off ebay. I'll be switching from a 9780 on T-Mobile.

Never bought a used phone before. Are there any recommendations? Should I do a device reset, then upgrade to latest software via BB desktop manager?

My favorite phone...... 9930. I refer to it as "the real phone".

It's usually an easy transition. Sometimes BlackBerry phones can be stubborn about allowing a new owner in. If you have problems, go into a Verizon store and they should help. I'm with Sprint and I have bought and sold tons of phones on eBay. I always do a complete reset then check to make sure all my stuff is gone from the phone (I've had photos and some contacts stored on the phone remain after a reset) and then I do a second reset.

I had the 9900 and it was the best phone I've had (still waiting to see if the Q10 can pass it up). My only gripe about it is that it had a terrible battery! I'd grab a spare one and the spare charger on CrackBerry. I did that and two batteries lasted me the whole day because I am a very heavy user.

I am student as well and have been using the Bold 9900 for more than a year now, been relatively satisfied, quite annoyed with the apps support though and when the ticking clock comes out on me when I am churning out a message.

Downside of the bold is that it lack the popular apps found on android and on iPhone, in addition it does not have a good camera. Battery life for me is a downer as well, keep kicking it down to 2G networks since my school has wifi around the campus so that I don't have to bring my charger with me to school. Cheer. Love the keyboard though
