Is there any way to get slingplayer working on bold 9900
Is there any way possible to get the slingplayer working on the bold 9900. I really miss it since i upgraded from the 9700.

I would suggest contacting Slingbox directly. It isn't even supported on the 9700 running OS6, so it appears that they no longer update it. Slingbox.com - BlackBerry Recommended Devices

Yes i know they no longer officialy support it, but i did have it working on my 9700 running OS6 perfectly. I was wondering if anyone especially with all the bright minds here knew of a way to get it working on the bold 9900. I really used it a ton and i miss it alot and i do not want to have to switch to the galaxy S2 skyrocket or iphone4s.

Here ya go, buddy...
I haven't tested them out on my new 9900 but I did use the 9700 version on my Torch last year. The only catch was that when you started the app you had to do it in landscape mode otherwise it would give a "app not properly installed" error message. Good luck!

The only thing I can think of is that some way, some how tbe app recognizes the 9900 is a touchscreen device & thus expects to start in landscape mode. This is only a very uneducated guess here.... But, if this is the case, then maybe a Storm version (if they ever existed because I'm not sure) will work on our phones. Maybe you can ask the question in the Storm forums. Good luck.

Yes i tried installing it as well but neither the .013 nor .011 version work. This is so frustrating that slingplayer supports everything but the Blackberry OS 7. They do not support OS 6 either but i was able to get the slingplayer working on my bold 9700 with version .013 but no luck on my 9900. Does anyone have any other ideas on how i can get it to work. Thank you.

Hey guys....my wife just got a new curve 9360 which is a blackberry 7 device and the slingox app copied over perfectly! I just tested it out and it works! She was previously using the .013 version on her Bold 9000, so this is the version that works on the curve 9360. I have a bold 9900 and it doesn't work on that, so I was very suprised to see it work on the 9360. This tells us that it's not a blackberry 7 issue!
Hopefuly someone finds a way to get it working on the 9900 soon....I'm missing it so much!

I cannot believe with all the bright minds in here, no one has yet figured out how to get it to work on the 9900. This has been a painful 4 months without it.

Count me in as another disappointed BB user (9930) without a working Slingbox solution.
I tried installing v1.0.0.13 but get the "not installed properly" error message when I try to launch the app. Tried installing v0.5.0.3 (beta) for the heck of it and got the same thing. I tried messing with permissions... when I launched the app it prompted me for permission to access "phone information". If I allowed it, I get the same error message. If I denied then the app quits. I'm thinking that the app is looking at the device ID or screen resolution and it doesn't like what it sees... since the Curve 9360 works is there any way to spoof the device ID/resolution/etc so the SlingPlayer app thinks it is installed on a "good" device?
Well those are my thoughts... I'll patiently wait and hope someone smarter than me figures it out. I think it's obvious at this point that Sling Media has no interest in supporting Blackberry anymore (can't say that I blame them either). - 06-14-2012, 07:59 AM #16
I still haven't figured out how to get SlingPlayer working on my 9930. I just wanted to provide an update to see if this spurs any ideas...
Since BA Baracus said SlingPlayer works on the 9360, I downloaded the simulator and attempted it myself. BA is correct, it works on the 9360. (I also downloaded the 9930 simulator but, as expected, I get the "not installed properly" error message.) I then backed up the SlingPlayer ALX and COD files from the 9360 using Desktop Manager and transferred to my 9930... And it didn't work (same error message).
I attempted this because I had read that this method has worked for similar app compatibility issues.
Anyone have other ideas?
EDIT: SlingPlayer Mobile 1.0.0.13 works on the Bold 9790 simulator, a touchscreen OS 7 device.... so strange that it doesn't work on the 9900/9930.Last edited by joelshooty; 06-14-2012 at 09:33 AM.

So it appears to be a resolution issue. SlingPlayer Mobile 1.0.0.13 supports 480x360 (among other lower resolutions) which explains why the Curve 9360 and Bold 9790 work. Since the Bold 9900/9930 is 640x480, SlingPlayer doesn't work.
Now, I'm not giving up yet. With some hex editing of the COD files I'm able to get the SlingPlayer app to launch on the 9930 simulator... sort of. The splash screen doesn't show (I just get a white screen). The screen that asks the user to Agree or Not Agree to the EULA does work. Then the error screens start. Eventually it asks for login info, but when it's time to get to the main screen it all falls apart again.
Anyone out there with COD hex editing experience? Better yet, experience getting legacy apps to run on the higher resolution 9900/9930 devices? - 06-15-2012, 08:41 AM #19
No question, if Sling had any interest in BB then they would have released a simple compatibility update by now.
But my goal is to modify the latest version of the app to work anyways.

I'm not sure if anyone still cares but I think I'm very close to having a functional SlingPlayer app for the 9900/9930......

I'm working on it. I'm not a BlackBerry dev nor a software developer of any kind, so I'm just sort of learning as I go. Anyway, I'll post updates here.

No money required. Sling already charges $30 for the mobile app, that's too much as it is.
Besides I wouldn't feel comfortable taking money.
