so far...not so good :(
I received my 9930 last night. Got the phone activated, was getting used to using it, and BAM. Suddenly I couldn't get it to stop freezing. I did like 6 battery pulls last night! I wasn't getting texts, I couldn't get into App World, it would freeze when I'd try to open an app like the camera, my old bbm contacts from my old berry kept showing up after I deleted them, it was just one thing after another. I hooked it up to desktop manager to upgrade the OS. It was stuck there for over 2 hours, and finally I was sick of waiting so I canceled the upgrade. I don't think it should've taken that long. I switched my service back to my Rezound this morning. The wise sage that is Chrisy advised me to wipe and reinstall the OS, so I'll be going that route when I figure out how to do that. I'm pretty sure the seller on ebay knew he had a lemon and either didn't know how to fix it or wasn't patient enough to try. So now I have a fixer upper on my hands!

You should be fine after a wipe and OS reload.
Just don't restore any apps/data/settings from a pre-OS7 BB, only the essentials like contacts, messages, calendar entries etc.

You can use a program like BBSAK to wipe the phone. If you have trouble getting the program to connect to the phone...open the task manager on your PC and terminate any processes that are using the connection to your phone.
We had some issues with one 9900 after using device switch. If you just want to switch BBM contacts you can store them on the SD card and move the card over to the new phone.
As Phill said, I would avoid using any type of back up file from pre-OS7 phone if it can be avoided. - 06-14-2012, 10:50 AM #4
Sorry to hear that.

Hope everything goes good!

Yeah I didn't even know it was possible to reload that stuff! I might just do a security wipe and be more careful about what I'm loading onto the phone and see if that fixes anything.

"Security wipe" will only delete the personal information/details on the phone i.e. e-mail etc.
Do a complete wipe so you see Error 507 via JL_CMD or BBSAK and install a brand spanking new OS. - 06-14-2012, 01:39 PM #7

Boot the phone to Safe Mode by rebooting and holding down the <Escape> key during the 1st 30 seconds of the boot.
This will then load only OS/RIM apps. In this mode, you can safely eliminate 3rd party app problems.
If this does not work, then it is worth talking to Verizon (Verizon network = Verizon phone so they must have supplied it) about warranty. All BlackBerrys come with a RIM 2 year warranty so Verizon should help you. If they do not wish to (quite likely) try calling RIM directly and ask them for help with a the warranty.
You could be looking at a refurb and that ain't bad. Most refurbs are simply phones that have been sold and then returned so they are essentially nearly new.
Knocking th ephone back to JVM 507 is really a last options here. You can do this with JLCmdr (as has been said), CrackUtil (my own program
), BBSAK or even Loader.exe.
Once this is done, you will obviously need to reload a new OS and when you do, test it before you load loads of programs. Just try email, internet, BBM, App World for starters.
I really hope you can make this work one way or another.
An absolute last resort is to ask the ebay seller for a refund and if they will not help, start an ebay dispute. I have done this several times and have always gotten a full refund from ebay.Thanked by:pantlesspenguin (06-14-2012)

Oh NO!!!! I'm so sorry you're going through this!!! I can be of no help to you since I've never had this happen...I had phones brick but I've never had one where I couldn't just reinstall.
I'm so sorry, woman. You should not have to go through this. *HUG*

I'm hoping to have lots of time to play around on it over the weekend! I'm staying on my Rezound until Saturday because I'm getting together with friends tonight and tomorrow night and I can't afford to have my texts gobbled up like what was happening last night!
I'm doing a security wipe as I speak. I'm guessing I might've loaded an old app, or some settings got funky when I logged in under my old account. Who knows. I hope this is an easy fix. I'm definitely going to look into BBSAK though.ann.warner@mobilenations.com

I hope you get it fixed. BBSAK is easy to use. I've never loaded an unofficial OS. But you'll be safe here!

Might want to run with no 3rd party apps for a couple of days -- just using email/SMS, etc. If it is solid then you know you have good hardware.
Couple other things it won't hurt to check:
Make sure the battery has a snug fit and the contacts look clean.
If still having issues on a stock OS and no 3rd party apps, try running without the media card.
Good luck! - 06-15-2012, 12:44 AM #18
Possibly. But also consider the issues could just be software and fixed with your security wipe. It is possible the seller thought it was bad hardware only because they have no idea how to wipe and rebuild a BlackBerry. Not saying it would be ok for them to dump it regardless. Just being positive that things will work out. The Bold 99xx is such a cool phone.

Great minds think alike
. Since the data wipe, I've actually been using it on wifi, using it for browsing, youtube, word mole (I've missed word mole!!!), and just scrolling around on it, going in and out of apps, etc. It's pretty zippy now! When I activate it tonight, I'm going to create a new BBID, use a different addy to sign into BBM, etc. That way none of my old crap will come back.
There are certain sellers I feel comfortable buying from on eBay. The one I purchased from is a phone retailer, they have excellent feedback, and a 30 day return policy. I felt it was a pretty safe purchase, AND it was in better condition than I thought it would be in! There are some slight scuffs and scratches on the bezel and a mark on the back, but that's it. It looks like it might've been from an ill-fitting case.
As a side-note. My bestie is going to FLIP tonight when we get together for drinks. He had been a BB user for a long time, until he got an Evo last year. He's said to me a few times that he misses BB. I have a feeling he's going to love the 9930.ann.warner@mobilenations.com

So happy you got it going on wifi.....
The scuffs might have even been from a Defender...I got my first 9930 scuffed from the Defender I got. It was before Otterbox redesigned them.Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for thou art crunchy, and good with ketchup

Glad to hear the Bold is working. I don't think there's any need to make a new BBID, although there's no harm in it. If you use your old BBID, App World will remember what you bought, but none of it will come back unless you re-download and install. And if there are things that aren't available for OS7, you won't be able to do that.
