I don't know if I'm a average/heavy user... I only have 23 bbm contacts but I bbm about 8 people regularly. I also text a lot and check facebook a lot (I like the web browser better than the app but I can deal with using whatever one drains the battery the least).

So am I a light user or? And could I use the 9900? The only thing stopping me from getting this phone is the battery life. I don't care about any apps other than fb or twitter. I only use my phone for bbm/text/fb/twitter/browsing/short phone calls.

Should I upgrade from the 9700 to the 9900? I'm hearing such variations on reviews about the battery life. I'm terrified to switch. I'm eligible for an upgrade but I do the whole "3 year contract" thing with rogers and I dunno if I should upgrade to the 9780 with the bigger battery or the 9900?

Also I'll be in university in the fall and I've heard that if you're in a room with lots of cell phones your battery dies faster?

You would actually be getting the 9900, the GSM variant, BUT it's pretty much the same as the 9930. You are a light user and I think you would be just fine with the battery on the 9900. While it is NOT as good as the 9700, it's still pretty good.

Not many devices have been as good on battery life as the 9700. Ever.

Sounds like the 9900 will be just fine for your needs, though. Go for it.

I've had the 9930 since Tuesday, and I must say its the best BB I've ever owned. And I've owned em all over the last 7 or so years. Battery life on mine is fantastic. If I take it off the charger at say 12 noon, I'm still at about 35% the following morning. And that's with some heavy use. I'd say go for it!

The device factor here should be the last concern.. first thing you should be looking at is the AT&T vs. VZW question. You're going from GSM to CDMA.. look at your coverage and see if it's even viable before moving to devices.

It's a more powerful device and the battery is smaller than the 9700 so the battery life will be less even if it is really good. Overall i think that for you, the upgrade makes sense, the keyboard on the 9900 is vastly better than the one on the 9700.

I just help at a Verizon store and wow what a great feeling device and the touch screen is perfect for simple menu navigation. When Sprint opens on Sunday I'm upgrading....if I can get confirmation that "Tether App" is available for OS 7

The 9900 and 9930 are basically the same devices. One is GSM and the other is CDMA. (IIRC) Example, the 9900 will work on AT&T network and the 9930 works on Verizon's network. As well as various other networks not listed.
