I am currently running OS7.1 Bundle 1646 (v7.1.0.523) I had to downgrade to this version after upgrading to (v7.1.0.2108) and found that there was NO 2G option

On 3G my phone lasts half a day whereas on 2G it lasts me a whole day if I am lucky. I am situated in South Africa and nearly EVERYONE complains about battery life

ANY advice would be appreciated on how to get the 2G option on the latest release OR how to increase battery life

I believe i read that the option 3G/2G is hardware/software related... I use my bold for a working day, without a problem, and i just use 3G.. hows your coverage?
You can try a hybrid os...

3G coverage is pretty weak in SA , not all areas are covered by 3G

Sorry plz explain the hybrid os to me ?? I'm new to the forum

A hybrid OS is one put together by a programmer to include the best of the available files for an OS. My recommendation goes to BerryLicious for a choice. http://forums.crackberry.com/hybrid-...evices-736988/ for lots of discussion and links.

Installing a hybrid may be more or less complex depending on the programmer. Follow the instructions. If you are not pretty comfortable with OS installation, upgrade or downgrade, then maybe a hybrid is not for you.

I also live in South Africa and had to roll back to 7.1.0.694 because there was no 2G option on 7.1.0.749

My battery on 7.1.0.749 lasted about 3hours

i dont under stand why there is no 2G only option in 749 and there is in 694

The new BL Hybrid has just dropped if you want to give it a try, based on .746 this time though I'm still using the large .714 .sfi which for me has very good signal and runs nice and cool.

Funny how I only have the 2G & 3G , 3G option and NO 2G only .... Would replacing the .sfi file with an older version ( one with al 3 options ) allow me to have all 3 options on this OS aswell ?? I dont know what the .sfi does but I see everyone replaces it , whereas I used the one included in .746

I am unsure what the .sfi file does anyways my question is simply if the .sfi CAN bring my 2G option back or not

Iv wiped my 9930 yesterday afternoon using Legals walk thru thread and it worked perfect and my battery is lasting. I have been messing with the phone all day since 6 am and it is 3:20pm and I still have 51% left

I've had a similar experience. After struggling for a long time with battery life, i finally did a full wipe including user installed apps and then restored. Since then it's been like I installed an extra capacity battery it's been so good. 12 hours into today and still have 73% battery. I'd recommend giving it a shot.

Update on my battery life after my wipe clean. Yesterday after moderate use and loading apps and deleting and loading I got 16.5 hours and my battery was reading 10% left.
What a difference when you wipe it and have a clean slate to work with and I got tons more memory from 130 to 220 trillion or what ever it is but I got more brain cells on the BB, lol.
