So how do you explain the 9900/9780 camera comparison in the Crackberry blogs?

For me, all Blackberry photos seem to suffer from mediocre contrast compared to iPhone photos. They just don't seem to "pop" as much. Nothing that couldn't be fixed with a little external processing of course, but who can be bothered to do that? Most people just want to email them or upload them to Facebook etc.
Another thing I suspect is that there's some degree of internal sharpening going on - whenever I see hair or fur as photographed by a Blackberry, I'm immediately reminded of the effect you get when you apply too much sharpening to a photo in Photoshop or Lightroom. Hair starts to get a little pixelated. This is very noticeable in the shots from my old 9000 but I see it a little in these shots as well. - 08-15-2011, 11:15 PM

YOUR CHILDREN ARE ADORABLE! God bless them!
And the pictures are great! I have taken a lot of pics from my 9900 and they have all been very crisp and havent had to retake pics cus of blur, that happened a lot on my 9700. Anyone trying to take a picture in the club and having to wait for a second to snap is out of their mind! 9900 is instant=no blur!If you like what I say, don't be shy to hit that "Like" or "Thanks" button!

I could have done without seeing the "hoochie mama" in the short skirt showing WAY too much madness but other than that the pics looks very crisp and clear (especially the ones outside of the moon bounce...I assume is what that was in red?

The only issue I have with the camera is it's ability to quickly recgonize bar codes. I noticed it when trying to bridge my Playbook for the first time. The 9700 was instant but 9900 was like an 80 year old trying to focus on a newspaper. Luckily I don't scan those codes too often.

Ok, so I HARDLY am ever in a need to do something like this.. But as it were... A few short days after purchasing the 9900, I find myself needing to capture some text for future reference... I was a little worried I wouldn't be able to make it work... But lo-and-behold... First shot was legible and away I went. Here is the screen shot:

Edit: ok, I don't know how to post the snapshot in a larger size like the ones previous. Hope it all works out for ya. My point is that, if your wanting To simply catch some quick text to reference later, the 99xx may still work for you. Works for me.Last edited by 123berryaddicted; 08-16-2011 at 09:37 AM.

No, not even close. Here's a blog post comparing the camera on the 9900 to the 9780.

My quality has been great at all. The only gripe I have had with the no AF camera was I was unable to use the barcode to pair my playbook since the camera could not focus on it. That could be a bit of an issue but aside form that its taking great quality shots.
