The wifi hotspot is not when your device connect to another to get Internet, but when you can create a 'wireless router' out of your phone to provide Internet to other devices around it. Basically it will turn your phone into a router. If you have it, it is listed under the connections when you pull down the main top menu.

All Bold 99xx will have wifi hotspot so log records of the phone will have that item. But it is enabled or disabled by the service provider according to their policies.

What method do you use to update? Do you have remote backup enabled for BBM? I used to have this issue if I wiped the device before updating. If I don't wipe before hand and use DM, they come back just fine provided I have remote backup enabled.

Is anyone else's BIS really unstable with this OS?

My 4 dots keeps disappearing whenever I run an app like Vlingo or Nobex Radio. I can't even use voice search with Vlingo now.

Awesome build, only have one issue that one of my bbm groups are not recovering. Anyway I found out as I wiped the device using bbsak the bbm contacts are still there without needing any recover ... I wonder if bbsak actually wiped the device completely ...

i did not do the wipe. i just used the loader.exe to update. i do have remote backup. last night 90% was restored by i am the only member thus i restored using the backup in the PC, still no. i restored using the local file on sd card, still none.

now am having issues on lag and clock keeps on showing, that it is busy... can't use it properly. i rebooted it 4-5x already.

Just loaded this. This is my first try at 7.1. On all my old BB's I put every leak, os, etc on them. My 9900 I have not. I think thisversion can be trusted. Curious to see how it settles in.

Sorry everyone, stupid newbie question here.

I've followed all the instructions on the first page, deleted vendor etc, then ran apploader. It all comes up saying device updated, then get the 'close' button, but nothing happens after that. I left it for 5 minutes or so, but still nothing.

Rebooted the phone with & with cable connected etc, and tried a few times but always the same result.

Any suggestions to what I'm doing wrong?

Try uninstalling all other os first, do some cleaning (ccleaner/similar), install the os u want to install and, reboot your computer.

I couldnt find a all language version, but i loaded the multilanguage one and inserted my own simplified chinese input cods (pinyin only). Here the cods i extracted from an earlier 7.1 build. just insert the contents in the file i attached into the java folder of the .342 loader files.

Don't install this , my phone rebooted 5 times in two days .And if you don't need hotspot, my truly advice is not to install any 7.1 update, and stay on stable 7.0 bundle 2406 version ,every 7.1 version sucks , and battery saving mode is useless. Wait for more stable 7.1 software

What do you mean? If this version of OS is not stable, the previous OS 7.1 are stable. If one leaked or official OS didn't work for you, the other will. The OS 7.1 is so much better than all the OS 7.0s combined if you look at performance of the phone, battery life and overall errors and issues. I would load the OS 7.1 for improvements and features.

Hahahaha. I've been on 342 since the loader files were leaked. So far everything seem smooth. Os snappy. Improved battery life for my usage. Plus the battery usage during idle has been insanely low. With very very very light usage I can probably get 3 days or more out of it. I'm on battery saving mode always on. I've loaded every 7.1 build and never had any stability issues at all.

Don't know what your doing wrong as each build is getting better. This one for me is solid. Idle drain is good and still quick after 4 days or so.

I always wipe my device before every update and I have had no issues.

Maybe you should try that yourself.
