I gave it a try too and founds the results inconclusive.

As it's no worse than the straight.342 I can live with it until the next leak surfaces, should be due one soon now that the Offical OS's have caught up with the leaks.

seems like .342 is popular with the official releases carries are putting out, hopefully AT&T follows up with this release soon for us Mac users.

Same thing happened to me! And I also got a App Error 602 reset. I kept wiping the phone and reloading the OS but nothing. And for some reason I had that same BES activation issue you have no matter how times I wiped and reloaded. I just settled with.318 for now and things are running pretty smoothly.

    Not sure how that happened

I have no idea what happened either.

Rather than wipe I tried a downgrade to .318 and it loaded fine first time.

Happy accident as I am finding that .318 is running like a dream for me !!!

Is the battery life any better than when the 9900 was first launched? Can anyone compare it with the iphone 4s?

Ok that's a decent indicator I guess. I had a 4 before this and I actually found the batter to be better on that compared to the 4S. As long as it can keep going for 6/8 hours until I whack it on charge again then that's fine.

Also random q here but if I buy it simfree does that mean the updates I get are not tied to when the provider I am using rolls it out?

No one is tied to updates from their carrier.

You can load any OS from any source, just need to delete the Vendor.xml files for teh OS to be recognised.

Ok i've never done this before so I'll probably be back on here on Tuesday figuring out how to update. So yes I've decided I am going to get one! Quite looking forward to it tbh. I had a play with 1 in a shop today and it was a dream to text on.

Upgrading an OS is reqlly quite simple, especially if you are doing it out of the box on a new device, no apps to worry about etc.

    Download BlackBerry Desktop Manager.

Download your chosen OS and install on your PC.

Run VENDELETE+ adds more power to VENDELETE tool to remove Vendor.xml files.

Open DM and connect phone, should say that there is an update available, click and go.

Once you have data on your phone, make sure that you do a back up before you update.

    Simples !!!

Have been using this .342 update for days. Unfortunately, I don't see any changes. Still experiencing some poor radio issues (sometimes I get SOS whenever I put my phone in the pocket) and very poor WiFi signal (my Bold 9780 received full bars 3 metres away, and my beloved 9900 received NONE). Plus, I get a few hangs whenever I open/download multiple apps at a time (considering this phone has a 768mb RAM) hence multitasking is still a problem for the bold 9900.

Just would like to share my experience of doing the install of the .342 on the bb9900, I did that yesterday ,

Procedure, was to download os, then use this program called JLC Commander to wipe device, So i connected the phone , did the wipe, and got the white screen. So far so good , then I moved on to running the apploader.exe, from that peculiar location on windows, Mind you that I had downloaded the BBDM and the setting on it was that , everytime i connect the phone, the BBDM would pop up automatically , and at the same time , bring up that annoying screen on the phone to choose what to do with the flickering and all.

So anyway, as the os installer was running , i came to point where it said , it was initialising the device, at this point, the device is reconnecting and disconnecting several times, all the while the BBDM was starting up , anyway , as i kept quiet, I got an error on the loader saying - "cant communicate with the device" , and the program prematurely stopped , I got a new black screen on the phone with some error which i cant remember, now , So as usual get a small heart attack. I even forgot to download the instructions from this forum on how to fix a nuked device.

Suddenly, I remember that BBSAK has a wipe feature, and so i used process explorer first , and kill the BBDM processes, there are like 3 of them , one of them is a RIM DEVICE MANAGER process, after killing them ( i hv a win 7 64 bit home premium os), Then i wiped the device with bbsak , and then started reinstalling the the apploader , thank GOD , it worked fine, got that movie when the device loaded.

So i then restored all data from BBDM and everything was peachy.

So far I have noticed, there is some slight changes in the UI, its much smoother, and when u do a universal search the icons look bigger, Hotspot works flawlessly, since I am in malaysia , carriers here are not devils as compared to imperealisitc america. There is a slight improvement in the battery.

I read somewhere that his update lets you do , Calls over WIFI, is that true ? Can someone please comment on this ? Also it does seem to me that signal strenght is slightly weaker, on this build , It goes to SOS sometimes in areas with bad reception , then again I think its not the fault of the OS, the older OS just didnt know that there was no connection and it still showed bars, Maybe...

So hope this helps , Oh and for some reason after wiping the device and having a fresh install there is more ram available , I dont really know how that happened , I was wondering if there is a free version of a task manager for this os ?

Both of us had a hard time installing the updates, anyways I would like to ask you about the Hotspot settings, I'm living in Malaysia too but how do I get the internet to work on other devices? I connected it with my Bold 9780, but can't seem to use the internet, currently using Maxis.

As for the call over wifi, I read somewehre that the feature is carrier dependent and as far as I'm concern, non of Malaysia carriers have that implemented yet.

Hey thanks for replying, Actually I have a BB9900 myself, so I really dont know regarding the hotspot function on ur 9780, I assume it would be same as bb9900, just turn on the hotspot by touching it , it will ask u set a password, and then its on , If you want to change the details , type hotspot at home screen and under the options menu, the hotspot details can be changed , such as the SSID , password, security etc.

Thanks also for responding about the calls over wifi , Ur right, somebody else had asked me the same question, about what carrier and service, I was under the impression that calls over wifi would mean , that I could start using yahoo voice , and msn voice alls , otherwise, its pretty much useless to have this function
