    Default Need HELP updating unbranded 9900

    So I have this unbranded white 9900, I've been trying to upgrade to one of the new OS updates. Mine still says 7.0 bundle blah blah blah...
    My carrier is SImple Mobile and I can get 3G though, mostily I only get EDGE(depending on the area). This device has better compatibility with AT&T(internet was a lot faster, was getting 4G speeds) but I couldn't get BIS without paying a lot more. Since I'm on SImple, when I plug it in to Desktop Manager it says my BB is up to date(still 7.0)
    Anyways, I've looked at a few tutorials and I haven't had luck updating the OS...
    I would appreciate if somebody could point me in the right direction or if someone could give me some quick instructions on how to do this.
    I've downloaded the latest official OS update(from China carrier) and I've been trying all day but haven't figured out how to get this done properly.

    hi there! make sure you use a program such as vendelete + to delete the vendor.xml files and use the loader.exe program or bbsak to reinstall the new os. also be sure to backup and wipe.

    thanks for the reply, I am kind of stuck and scared at the same time because I did wipe the phone using bbsak. the phone now says error 507. So I tried to load the new OS but when it comes to the 2nd screen it says there is no device software for this device... or something along those lines. I really don't know what to do now. Need help badly!

    Error 507 is common after a wipe. It means the previous OS has been removed from your phone to make way for the new one.
    You NEED to delete the vendor.xml files from your PC before you can continue with the update. See the post above, all the instructions are there.

    So I am officially in freakout mode.
    I have tried everything from what I have read in a bunch of forums in various threads. I regret ever wanting to upgrade. Everyone just made it sound so easy.

    I have removed every single vendor xml file. I even ran the vendelete tool just to make sure. I still get the same message on the same window that reads:
    "The Blackberry desktop software does not have blackberry device software for the device that you have connected to the computer"

    I really don't know where to go from here. I have followed every step of every tutorial I could find online. At this point, I am unsure if this phone is even salvageable.
    I am gonna keep checking back on here to see if someone can come up with something to help me with this. In the mean time I guess I can try calling Blackberry? Is that even possible? As I stated before, my current carrier is SImple so... I don't think they even know anything about bbs since they don't even feature on BB's website's list of carriers in North America.

    Don't fret - I have been down the same path before ). I wouold suggest that you first remove ALL instances of BlackBerry OS from your computer and reboot. Re-install your chosen BB operating system version(china unicom is fine). Use Vendelete+ (or similar program) to locate the two instances of the vendor.xml files on your computer and delete them BOTH. Connect your phone to your computer using the USB cable. Launch the loader.exe program found in Apploader folder [not the BlackBerry Desktop Software] and follow the prompts, it should detect the Bold (with the 507 software error) and load the operating system.

    I used basically the same workflow to get my unbranded 9860 up and running on T-Mo Monthly.

    I hope that I ddin't leave out anything...but please do give it another go and let us know.

    Hey, thanks for giving at least some hope... I tried what you suggested. I uninstalled the OS(i had tried with two different ones), I removed them both. I then restarted my computer, installed the China Unicom update again and ran Vendelete, all to no avail...
