I have been emailing back and forth with Tom last I heard he was in Richmonf Va. We were gonna try and meet up for dinner. Unfortunately work had other plans for me. Not sure where he made it to today
He spent the night in Petersburg, VA. You can catch up with him. He's moving really slow, :P
I've set a goal for him to go 215 miles to Elizabethtown, NC. Now that he's on flat ground, it should be possible.
TW - It is scootnyinzer's (Mitch's) birthday tomorrow. He is 10 years older than me. Oops...sorry Mitch
I am a gentleman of a certain age and by revealing that age, you have probably violated the CB forum rules. I am 53, look 43 and act 23 (or 13, according to some people). Since it is my birthday, we should video chat on the playbooks.
One of my closest friends is embarking on a 10,000 mile scooter journey on a 50cc scooter through the USA, Canada and Mexico to benefit 3 very worthy charities.
He is a crazy, loyal iPhone fanboy, but when I demonstrated how vastly superior Blackberry Traffic was to what he was PAYING BY THE MONTH FOR on his iPhone, he began lusting for my Bold 9900. Since he will need to do daily WordPress posts on his blog, a physical keyboard will be a huge benefit too.
I suggested he inquire about being one of the "Be Bold" "Do What Your Love" case studies. I don't know where to start, but I really want to get this in front of RIM's marketing folks. Check out the website for the trip and see if your don't think this would be an awesome "Be Bold" story. PM me if you have a good contact.
He's an . Why would he pay for anything monthly when he can do a one time fee for the full Garmin App that is exactly like the one's people put in their cars?

Why pay for the garmin app when blackberry traffic is free
Blackberry Traffic would be perfect if there was an "avoid highways" option. I use BB Traffic in my car and in town on my Vespa, but when I go somewhere farther away on the scoot and want to avoid long stretches of highway, I have to switch to Wisepilot, which is well priced @ $32 lifetime. Garmin does not support BBos7, so I had to seek an alternative. Wisepilot is very good, but only gives generic "turn right in 100 yards" instead of street names. But it does get you there. If BB Traffic had a "no highways" option, (and if were combined with BB Maps) it would be the ultimate smartphone navigator.
If at first you don't succeed, call it version 1.0
Tom had a major mechanical failure in South Carolina, but he has decided to auction the old scooter on ebay and buy a new one with roadside assistance for one year. I reworked his website, so he is able to post to wordpress from his phone and it automatically posts to Facebook and Twitter. Go to Journey From Silence. There are links to fb and twitter and rss
Funny update today!! The police escort is cool!!! When is he scheduled to be done?
Between all the breakdowns, getting lost and getting distracted, I'm not sure I'll ever see him come home. The coming of winter will force him to finish. Canada's riding weather is a little chilly after labor day and I know Tom hates being cold.
