After months of waiting for my upgrade to arrive my Bold 9900 will be in my hands shortly. I'm upgrading from my Curve 8520, my first BB device, which has served me well despite a couple headaches w/ apps. I'm a loyal guy, I've resisted the urge to jump over to Android 'cause I hate the OS and as far as iphones go...who cares.

My real question is whether all this waiting I've done is actually a blessing in disguise?

Has the build quality been improved since its release? Am I lucky 'cause I won't have any bricking issues, some pesky bug? I know about the battery life concerns and I figure - No device is perfect and I have a car charger.

Any tips for improving my introduction to the device would be greatly appreciated!

If you're coming from an 8520 then you are really in for a treat with the 9900. I was when I upgraded from my 9800.

I forgot to tell you it works great with 64gig PlayBook. You should get one it was best investment I made in BlackBerry.

It will be worth the wait. The first thing I would do is install the very latest 'leaked' OS. Then start updating and installing apps you want.

    Thanks for all the responses.

Got home to device sitting on coffee table. Synced contacts, calendar and email in under 5 minutes.

Within an hour of setting it to my specs it felt like I'd had the device for months. Seamless transition.

And Madman, the Playbook seems awesome, but I don't have a lot of use for it now with Macbook Air. It'd just seem like overkill.

P.S. The keyboard is fracking amazing!!! It's like BUTTA!

I'm a little wary of this. What are the perks? Is it that much improved?

I was very reluctant to upgrade my OS beyond what my carrier (AT&T) offered, but finally got tired of waiting and upgraded to an official version of 7.1 just the other day. MUCH better battery life!! Huge! There are other features available as well, but overall, my phone seems much more stable, and that and the battery life thing has made it worth the effort. I'm still behind the latest release, but now that I know how to do this, I'll probably get the newest release soon.
