My Bold 9900 is scheduled to arrive today. I've been using the Bold 9000 since it was first released on AT&T. I can't believe I held out for so long. Good bye trackball!

Is there any quirks I should be aware of before making the jump from an OS 5 device to OS7? I'm on a Mac and will use the Desktop Manager App to make the switch. I was given a new 4G SIM card to use with the new phone. Will the SIM card activate on it's own when I power the phone on? I recently downloaded some of the free apps from Blackberry's website. Do I re-download them or does the Desktop Manager take care of the transfer?

    Thanks,

    Allen

Don't know about the SIM. When you sign in with your bbid on the new bb and open appworld, it will show you all apps that you have previously downloaded and you can install there on the new device. There may be a number of apps you're using on os5 that may not be compatible with os7 yet. There were at least two I had to find OS7 compatible alternatives for.

As for DM, it will load the apps back on the new one if you use device switch.

    Welcome to the club ricecube!

I just did the exact same move last week, wiped the device right away and installed the .590 version. So far everything good.

    Good luck

Before you get your new phone, make sure you sync your old phone with DeskTop Manager. If you haven't already done so and you are not on a BES corporate account, put Blackberry protect on your 9000 and do a backup. If you have any apps that can save setups to a sd card do that too, so you can restore the setting once the app is installed on the new phone.

When you do switch, do not use the device switch wizard. Just put the sim in your new phone, put in your BlackBerryID and follow the setup to setup your email accounts. Then go to BlackBerry Protect on the 9900 (it is preinstalled on OS7) and restore from your 9000 backup. Then use Appworld to reinstall any apps you may have had on your old phone. If they do not show in Appworld, they may not be OS7 compatible.

You can then connect to the Desktop Manager and use the sync to move your music and etc over.

Here is a Crackberry article on using Protect to switch devices.

I just switched from a 9000 to 9900 last night!

I didn't want to do the device switch wizard because I wanted more control over what gets transferred over (nothing wrong with doing it that way, I just had my reasons).

Instead, I backed up my 9000 to DM and then I plugged in my 9900, did an OS upgrade, and then hit Restore and did a selective restore from the 9000 backup (contacts, emails, phone history, texts, etc) to the 9900.

Worked like a charm and only took a matter of minutes.

Thanks for the replies. The transfer from the 9000 to 9900 went smoothly. It's amazing how much better the 9900 is. Like some of you suggested, I did not use the Switch Device feature on the Desktop Manager. I did a full back up of the 9000 and then restored my contact list only to the 9900. I wanted to start fresh and didn't want to carry over too many things from my old phone. My calendar is a mess so I'll have to clean that up before I sync with ICal.

hey man I am thinking to jump from 9000 to 9900 too. As you know 9000's batery life is sucks, i have to charge twice a days which is a hassle (im not a heavy user)
Now im afraid 9900 have the same problem (i heard so many people crying about 9900 batery life in this forum)
hope you dont mind to share you exp. since u came from the same device as me.
    thanks in advance

9900 will probably be better than what you're describing with your 9000. I suspect your current battery is old and tired.

9000 to 9900 is a huge jump up that you won't regret.

Get ready to not have to do a battery pull every day when your app memory hits zero and things start getting nuked . Also this screen is gorgeous! Track pad does take some getting used to however; I'm still not used to it after a few days and find it less responsive than the old school ball.

I switched from 9000 to 9900 and I have no battery issues running the .590 OS. I wouldn't hesitate recommending you upgrade. My 9000 battery was useless.

I'm switching to the 9900 very soon, and I cannot wait...The 9000 was my favorite BB, an extreme work horse..I'm currently using the 9800 and I hate it, so I'm more than ready to make this switch!!!

add me to the list... just pulled the trigger, should have a new 9900 from at&t in a couple days. initially loved the 9000, but I've held out as long as I can! Glad to see others are generally having a positive experience

seems the 9900 + PB = awesome... will let ya know my thoughts once I arrive ;-)
