downloaded and ready to update y'all as soon as I get it on my phone.
**update** used it for a few days. I experienced a few bugs and got rid of it shortly thereafter: problems with playing ringtones and alerts and inability to properly/quickly close/exit apps.
(side note request/proposition: can we all agree to not get into 20 pages of "I can't load this OS on my phone problems"... and keep our comments on sharing our experience with this version? it seems as though the pages have degenerated into "help me load this on my phone" and stuff that can be looked after elsewhere including those pandering for likes and thanks...)Last edited by Mr.Conviviality; 10-09-2012 at 09:26 AM.

Updated OS UPGRADE GUIDE
Here's my updated OS install guide if anyone needs a refresher...
ELITE1's OS UPGRADE GUIDE
(updated 2012-09-01)
- (Optional) Uninstall any previous OS from PC.
- Download OS to PC. Use Internet Explorer, not Firefox or Chrome. (For leaked versions, browser is irrelevant.)
*If 100% certain you previously used FF or Chrome on same PC to DL an OS successfully, feel free to use FF or Chrome again. - Following successful DL, run OS file to install OS on PC.
- On BB, go to BBM Options, scroll down to Backup section. Ensure Remote Backup is enabled AND also conduct a Local Backup to media card.
- Go through any 3rd party apps with option to save settings to media card. Conduct Backup to media card within each of these apps. (Examples: Bellshare apps like BerryBuzz & BerryWeather; QuickLaunch; Shao's apps like Wallpaper Changer & SixTools; etc).
- Connect BB to PC. Open DM and backup device. Close DM.
- (Optional) Use desktop app like BBSAK or BBMCP to backup 3rd party apps.
- On PC, delete Vendor file located here:
64-bit: Computer/C:/Program Files (x86)/Common Files/Research In Motion/AppLoader
32-bit: Computer/C:/Program Files/Common Files/Research In Motion/AppLoader - (Optional/Recommended) Run BBH Tool (formerly Shrink-A-OS) or BB Boss v2.2 (not as updated as BBHT).
- In same AppLoader file where you deleted Vendor, double-click Loader to load OS to BB. Follow onscreen instructions.
- After loading OS, perform several physical battery pulls over first 1-2 days for OS to "settle in." Perform first batt pull very soon after OS is loaded.
**TROUBLESHOOTING**
How to Fix OS not Appearing as Available
There are 2 common reasons:
A. HIDDEN VENDOR FILE
Consider trying this new desktop app to remove Vendor from several common locations:
http://forums.crackberry.com/blackbe...-files-709738/
If manually deleting Vendor, always hold down SHIFT and press DELETE to permanently delete.
Check here first:
64-bit: Computer\C:\Users\{USER NAME}\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
32-bit: Computer\C:\Documents and Settings\{USER NAME}\Application Data\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
If Loader still doesn't make new OS available, search PC for "Vendor".
If Vendor is not found anywhere, see below to delete contents of AppLoader folder. (Folder where you found Loader & Vendor.)
B. APPLOADER FOLDER ITEMS
- Uninstall the OS: Control Panel\Programs and Features, highlight this BlackBerry Device Software, click Uninstall at top.
- Delete AppLoader folder contents: Highlight any item, CTRL+A to select all, SHIFT+DELETE to permanently delete.
64-bit: Computer/C:/Program Files (x86)/Common Files/Research In Motion/AppLoader
32-bit: Computer/C:/Program Files/Common Files/Research In Motion/AppLoader - Restart PC.
- Re-install OS on PC: Go to your browser's downloads section, double-click OS to start InstallShield Wizard.
- Delete Vendor: Return to AppLoader folder, highlight Vendor, SHIFT+DELETE.
- Load OS to BB: Attach BB to PC, double-click Loader (in AppLoader folder, where you deleted Vendor).

I wiped bb using bbhtool. Now it shows error 507. Run Loader.exe; however, it doesn't let me click "next".
I have loaded so many roms before and it has never happened like this.
Help, please!
Thanks.

Error 507 is normal for a wiped BB. Do you see the new OS ready to load when you use loader?

Thanks Rroyy for yet another update !!
I have a small query with regard to the "Autotext" feature in this particular update; which I learn was missing in the last upgrade (7.1.0.658) as well.
Anyone whose loaded 7.1.0.714 can confirm that Autotext data from earlier versions of the OS is running fine on this new one.
Thanks - 09-28-2012, 11:30 AM #17
Thanks for responding Marcin,
But just a further clarification, what I was really looking for was that when I upgrade from 7.1.0.569 to 7.1.0.714 then the database of AUTOTEXT entries doesn't/shouldn't get erased. Because this I have read of in many forums as a problem people had when upgrading to the 7.1.0.649.
Thanks !!!

@kuunal: If you have a lot of custom AutoText, as an extra backup you might want to look into an app called AutoTextBackup. It's a tiny app that you can use to backup or restore your AutoText with a single-click. (Just remember to make the backup!)

There is NO issue with upgrading regarding losing the Auto Text/ Word Substitution feature. I did it and lost nothing. It worked with the DM and when I upgraded my 2nd 9900, I used the BES for an OTA restore and they both worked. The End.

sofar the best upgrade, usually at some point in the afternoon i have to switch to 2G to make it last til 9 PM, starting .658 and now this .714, i can use my 3G for the whole day again. i tried it once, on 2G it even lasted me almost 2 days (i only use my 9900 for email, bbm and IM)
9700 → 9810 → 9900

So tired of hearing all these BS battery claims where battery life or radio signal improves with each new release.
