In the past I had used 7.1 three seperate times and had horible battery life. It was 8-15% discharge rate.

I decided to give it one last try with a different aproach. I did two back ups, one with all my data and another of just contacts, then I beacked up my apps on BBSAK. Then I did a security wipe, then wiped the phone. I dowloaded .163 VZW and installed it, but only restoring my contacts and so far its been fine. Battery has been @ 4% discharge rate and no bugs or glitches.

I'm wondering if I had something that was not getting along with 7.1?

One more thing, I didn't shrink it this time either. That could habve been it too.

Slowly over the next couple of days I will be adding in my apps and other data.

Something to think about guys if you are not getting good battery life.

So you had an app that wasn't playing well with 7.1.0.163?

    Which one was it?

I don't have all the apps in yet.
I suspect Fixmo tools may be heavy on the battery.
What really helped me was to turn off images in email. Uncheck the box that says download images automatically. I get a lot of mail.......
Anything that uses the cell, or WiFi radios excessively, like social apps. make sure they are turned off.

I'm really not sure what else at this point...I'm keeping an eye on it.

School is still out on 7.1 for me. I use my phone mostly for calls, text, emails, and bridging to my PB. I do not use any social apps. My battery life has decreased installing 7.1. I have no apps automatically updating and at the end of the day I see a 25% decrease in battery life over 7.0

Is the bricking issue gone with 7.1? Still want a 9900, just really don't want anymore headaches with phones.

The ones that say they bricked are uncertain. More of a user error or OS errors, not bricking.

I don't want to say yes, but I leaning towards it.

The thing that I like about 7.1 is that I can use wifi without having to turn data on. I burned data by accident one time when my wifi cut out (using 7.0.0.374). I won't have that problem anymore!

What really made my battery life double is uninstalling Facebook. Even though I had it to refresh every 3 hours before. It still drained my battery. Now by the end of the day, I have 50% battery left on OS 7.1.0.190

Device analyzer. Is reading "Battery drain rate (high) 5.05% per hour

That's still high in my opinion, but that's way better than it was and the same as .374.

Remember, I have notthing installed on my phone , its just like its fresh out of the box.

Today I am running at 3.4% discharge rate per hour. It just keeps getting better.

With few emails and many SMS and BBM messages plus some Facebook and SocialFeed for RSS, I get around 2.9% discharge today with the very first OS 7.1 leak. That's really good from my point of view.

This is a nice find! I think useful if you need to skip company's IT downloading policy, just turn off data and download via wifi. Previously you need to turn data on to use wifi

I think RIM was wrong to make two identical devices. The 9900 is fine with this tiny battery, but the 9930 has the obstacle of being a CDMA device and requiring more power to operate its radio.

The 9930 should have been a few mm thicker to accommodate a slightly larger battery, like 1500mah would have been fine.

I installed first 7.1.0.205 by just backing up contacts. My battery life is great. I never shrinked my OS as well.
